Just every health industry in the world including health canada and countless studies have shown it’s an issue.

I get your point, but is it a conflict to offer diagnosis of car problems and also repairs?
That's the model for a ton of service industries as the expertise between diagnosing and fixing highly overlaps. Granted, a lot of those have regulation because of people screwing customers.

Had mitigation done this past February. Pre-mitigation levels (using a digital tester from Amazon) were between 225 - 350 in the basement bedroom where my daughter sleeps. Started switching furnace fan to run intermittently which lessened the range to 175 - 250. Decided to go ahead with mitigation.
After mitigation, digital tester showed 15-30.
Still did the little puck thing post mitigation to be sure. Tested for 90 days. Levels came back as 32 +/- 6.

I tested and got 274 for our basement probably going to do mitigation.
Health Canada says to few with it after 200
World heath organization says you should after 100
|

For borderline results you might also want to consider how you use your basement (presuming that is where you did the test). Radon is usually higher in the winter and often higher at night. If you are using the basement extensively or have a bedroom down there that might tip you towards doing it; if your basement is more for storage it is less of a concern.

Okay, thanks for the info. One of my kids will probably be moving into the room down there within the next couple of years. I guess next year I'll start mitigation in anticipation of that.

The difference between floors is about 15%. I might be mistaken on why that exactly happens but it might have something to do with the hole under the furnace that pulls the air up and through your house.

15% would be toward the low end of the difference, but it varies and depends on a lot of factors (type of basement, HVAC design, etc.). There isn't perfect air mixing throughout a house so generally a heavy gas entering in through the basement slab will have higher concentrations in the basement than higher storeys (most studies I've seen have ranged from 15% to 50% decrease), which is why testing is done in basements first.

Let's talk about RADON
Interest, we just got a newsletter from school saying they were going to initiate radon testing at the school and deliver the results to parents in a few months. Is this random or are all CBE schools doing this?

i found a digital radon meter on kijiji for a decent price lowest levels were 150 peaked at 475.
got Radon west to mitigate and now my levels are between 4-17. So pretty happy with the results. Someone that's fairly handy could probably do it themselves, Radonwest even offered to help guide through the process if you chose to try yourself.
