So I've decided that Jackson Hole is going to be the next resort to cross off my hit list. Is there much activity at night if I stay slopeside? Or is it better to stay in town? How far is downtown Jackson from the hill?

You know what I call a real powder day?
2 feet over night. Highway closed by 10 am. Half the mountain closed in the morning for avalanche control.
Best day ever.
Snowbird.

Got around to finally buying Level 1's Sunny (movie of the year folks) and am enjoying it even more than in the theatre.

Pretty meh.
All the resorts were there peddling their loyalty cards, but only Louise was set up to activate scan-to-lift. Some joker from Sunshine told me they couldn't do it because it was too far to their servers on the hill (what??). I did pick up a 2 for 1 midweek promo pass from Revy which was pretty cool.
The Canadian Avalanche Centre was there giving some free seminars, which is why I went, but their space was in between the paintball booth and the indoor skate park/radio announcers, so it was rather difficult to listen. Still a good refresher though.
A few of the smaller ski/board shops were there with discounts on gear, but none of the big ones. I don't really think that show is the place to buy anyway. I thought there might be a used gear swap but no luck on that front.

I went on Friday. It was $73.
Lifts Running: Angel, Wawa, Standish, Strawberry, Jackrabbit and Wolverine.
Great snow, but there were rocks lurking beneath the surface in places. Both Wawa and Standish had extended periods of getting shut down, too.

wasn't to happy about only getting $7 off when not even a third of the hill wasn't even open. and to top it off I damage my snowboard due to the rocks just beneath the surface

Yeah, I was happy to get in a good day so early in the season. But to be honest it just made me hungrier to get to a real destination like Fernie, Louise, Revy, or Kicking Horse.

Those have pretty nice lookin' face. Pretty fat for the Rockies too.
Sunshine was decent on Monday. As expected, most of the snow was loose stuff on top with plenty of rocks underneath. Hiked off of Wawa for a run and that was a big mistake. The bottom of the trail ended up being uncovered logs that the snow hadn't reached yet so we ended up having to take a long time maneuvering through them.
But besides that it was great to get the first day of the year in!

There isn't much activity slopeside, the town is way more lively. We rented a house not too far from the hill and a shuttle pick us up and dropped us off. If I were you I would stay close to the resort and just take the bus into town to go partying.
