I can't imagine Bennett signing a 5 year deal for $3M.

If we give Tkachuk $8M, it better be for 8 years, not 6.

Rittich is tougher to figure. Often goalies have little leverage, but good ones have tons. It really depends on how he does in the playoffs. If he does well, I doubt that 3 years at $2.5M gets it done.

Who do you bring back? Who do you let go? And for what?

Italics - Only if the price is right

Does Bennett still have 3 more RFA years left since he only played 12 games in year 1. Burned a year on the contract but didn't accrue a full year of service.

If that's the case another 2 year deal for him. If he's not showing more offence two years from now he might become a pretty expensive third liner. Which in a cap environment might be something the Flames can't afford.

My bet is that Tkachuk will get a rich offer sheet this summer, which will force the Flames into a tough position because they are loathe to upset the salary structure on this team.

Hathaway should come at a relatively bargain price as a UFA and is a good fit on the 4th line.

Bennett and Mangiapane and Rittich will will likely sign at decent prices as well.

Why Tkachuk?

There has not been a RFA offer sheet in more than six years; why would there suddenly be one this summer, and specifically for Tkachuk amid perhaps the largest crop of high-end pending RFAs, which includes Mitch Marner, Brock Boeser, Patrik Laine, Brayden Point, Mika Rantanen, Timo Maier, Kyle Conner, Kevin LeBlanc and Sebastian Aho among others?

icon57 2019 Flames UFA/RFA Discussion:

Like all teams. the Flames have a 50 contract limit, only 25 contracts are currently signed going in to next season.

I think looking at the Calgary and Stockton depth charts might be a better way to view this topic.

Flames:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolík
Bennett - Jankowski - Neal
Dubé - Ryan - Hathaway
Mangiapane - Czarnik

Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - Hamonic
Stone - Brodie
Fantenberg

Rittich

Heat:

Quine - Graovac - Robinson
Rychel - Gawdin - Foo
Lomberg - Phillips - Pospisil?
Ruzicka?

Välimäki - Kylington
Valiev - Ollas Mattsson
Healey - Nielsen

Gillies
Parsons
McDonald
Schneider

I'd like to see at least three pro years given to a prospect before cutting them lose. (If no progression) So, a couple of the above deserve a return. (Foo & Healey)

The other guys are either hired guns (Quine & Graovac) or just warm bodies to fill in the roster (Lomberg, Rychel, Valiev)

Probably only Ollas Mattsson and a couple of our forward prospects (Pospisil & Ruzicka) get ELC's.

This would put Calgary at 42/50 contracts with lots of room for improvements.

So, all of the following can walk.

Lazar, 1 million + too expensive
Pollock, third pro season and regressing
Smith, we can do way better
Prout, not needed
Peluso, not needed
Taormina, wasn't a fit
Hogstrom, couldn't stay healthy
