Default After Vernon and Kipper, who's the third-best goalie in Flames history?

What inspired to me ask you guys this was all of the goalie issues this team is having recently. Makes me wonder - why is still a thing?

But that has also been an issue for the all years neither Mike Vernon nor Miikka Kiprusoff started in goal for the Flames on a consistent basis. This franchise is no stranger to a bunch of goalie carousels.

Which led me to the question - which Flames goalie from past or present deserves the "third-best" recognition?

And to be clear guys, Vernon and Kipper are 1A and 1B to me. And goalies who played in Atlanta are also considered.

Lemelin maybe? Or Turek. Don't think Kidd or Tabaracci or Hank Karlsson register.

Rejean Lemelin was my favorite goalie as a kid.

Kipper is clearly 1.

I don’t understand the Vernon love. He was not elite.

I don’t think outside those two any other flames goalie has been an above average starter for consecutive seasons.

Yah, I don't really understand the Vernon love either. Guy was good, but always had a good team in front of him. No 1A or 1B in my mind. Kipper clearly number one and it's not even close.

I'll say Reggie Lemelin and then Karri Ramo, but the pickings are incredibly slim.

Lemelin no doubt. And yeah, Vernon wasn’t that good... except for all those cups he won. It was a different era.

Brathwaite had a moment too. Wouldn't put any post Kipper goalie anywhere near the list.

The problem with all the non-Vernon and Kiprusoff guys is their longevity (or lack thereof).

David Rittich - 1 year as starter
Mike Smith - 1.5 years as starter
Brian Elliott - 1 year as starter
Karri Ramo - 3 years as starter
Jonas Hiller - 1 year as starter
Roman Turek - 2 years as starter
Freddie Brathwaite - 3 years as starter
Ken Wregget - 1 year as "starter"
Trevor Kidd - 3 years as starter
Rick Tabaracci - 1 year as starter

Then you get to Lemelin, who was here for quite a while. It almost has to be him by default.

Giguere?

I'd give my vote to Brathwaite. Decent GAA and Save% on those Flames teams.

Roman Turek

The man took a paycut from a current signed contract to allow us to sign Kipper

Even to this day, I don’t know a single player who has ever done such an unselfish act that comes close to this

Wow never realised how slim the pickings were for such a list.

I guess
Lemelin
Turek
Brathwaite
Kidd

Turek and Brathwaite somewhat interchangable and Kidd really just for his masks

Dan Bouchard was a quality 'tender. Too bad he wanted out after the Flames moved to Calgary.

Won't be a popular opinion, and it almost pains me to even think it, but might Hiller be in the top 5? I mean, he won a playoff round and had good numbers his first year here

Ramo was better and more consistent than Hiller. Think he gets underrated here. Only Kiprusoff has a higher career save-percentage as a Flame than Ramo, among goalies with 50+ GP.

Reggie Lemelin or Dan Bouchard. I lean Bouchard because he provided stability as Fletcher figured out the rest of the Atlanta/Calgary roster, then he was shuttled out as Fletcher turned to upgrading goaltending.

It’s Lemelin. Full stop....debate starts after the top three.

Definitely Lemelin IMO. Then maybe Dan Bouchard.

Don Edwards was the biggest disappointment.
