Default Inappropriate Advertising

In the past I have typically logged into CP once or twice a day at the office to see if anything is new. Its better than checking Flames news via TSN or the other crappy sites.

In the last month or so, and on the right side advertising panel, whether at home or work, the panel displays scantily clad women and inviting you to some dating site. Usually latin but sometimes russian, although the race/culture doesn't matter.

This is whether or not I'm logged in via a private VPN, with or without my username, behind a firewall, scrubbed cookies, from a separate internet line, or otherwise. I'm quite sure neither I nor anyone in my household is entering keywords to search for ladies which leads to these advertisements.

In other words, it seems to be part of the CP advertising revenue stream.

This site banned the "hot women" thread, and that's probably a good thing, but its also not acceptable to have those kinds of ads on the site. If there's a standard, stick to it even if it means revenue. Its even worse the images are displayed via involuntary ads, because at least in the "hot women" thread you had to click to get the pictures. It seems they are showing up on CP just for the revenue.

I recognize I might be exposing myself to allegations of me or someone in my household searching things which lead to these ads, however, I'm quite sure neither I, my wife, nor our three year old are. And via even independent viewings from other computers, these ads are displayed.

Can this be corrected? Is it intentional?

It's not controlled by CP. There's also a button to not show that ad anymore.

As mentioned we don't choose exactly what ads to show, according to Google they choose ads based different things, one of them being the content of the site the ads are being displayed on. So Google figures dating sites would appeal to a site full of sports fans.

More info:

https://support.google.com/adsense/t...hooter/1631343

Also as mentioned you can opt to not see particular ads. Click on the X on the top right of the ad and it'll give you the options, the link above also gives more information about that. I'm not sure if you have to be signed in to a Google account in order for those opting out choices to work, or if they store a cookie on the computer to accomplish that. If opting out doesn't work then that's also something controlled by Google that we wouldn't have any control over.

It is an interesting point though, Bingo handles the details of the advertising so I don't know exactly what kinds of options are available in terms of guiding Google as to what ads are presented, but I'll bring the thread to his attention.

I haven't seen anything in appropriate since I turned on google advertising in my google account (or whatever that is called). Now when I'm on my ipad it shows me specific ads to my browsing history and I haven't seen any of the scandalous women dating ads in a while.

On the other hand, every time I click on the medical marijuana thread, I get ads for weed dispensaries and every time I go in the trump thread I get weird ads from some site called newsmax or some ####. It's like breitbart on crack from what I can tell.

Well yes but if you do you can (and hopefully will) whitelist this site to still display ads to support the free service the site provides you with.
