I almost always hate the musical performances but Raye nailed it last night and the rendition she performed of Escapism was exceptional.

I had never heard of her, but that was by far one of the best musical performances I've seen on SNL in quite a while. At least since Jack White a couple years ago.
Overall that was a pretty fun episode. The Jumanji and retirement party sketches were hilarious.

That song was her breakout hit in early 2023. It probably didn't get as high on the charts as it should have but it is a pretty awesome, catchy tune. Doing it in a jazzy/lounge singer style is almost better than the original.

Just catching up on some SNL music acts and cleaning out the PVR. Raye was incredible. Powerful voice, very dynamic and soulful. Her band was extremely impressive as well.
On the other end of the spectrum, Travis Scott. He must be the least talented successful rapper out there, I realize that a lot of those guys make autotune a part of their sound but that was horrendous. Laughable.

I haven’t watched an episode of SNL in like two years. I’m quite excited for this one.

It's not even at Update yet, and it's been the best episode of the year - both intentionally and unintentionally.

I was dying during the Beavis and Butthead sketch. So funny.
And Chris Stapleton kicks ass.

Great episode. Actually I’ve been pretty impressed all season. Thus cast is plucky and kind of weird. I like it.

Heidi Gardner lost it. Too funny.
And Gosling cant make it through a sketch without cracking up.
Best episode in years.

Kate being abducted by aliens has been done too many times, but “South Mouth” was sharp.

Yea, there's nowhere else they can really go with that sketch. The original one was so funny, but they went downhill after that.
That being said, I lost it last night when Kate got between Gosling's legs and described what the aliens did to his junk. Hilarious.

I don't think anyone has ever broke as hard as Gardner did when she saw Day as Butthead. So hilarious.

You have to think she was not aware of the costumes and just lost it on first sight

Gosling breaks character in every sketch.

Yeah I think he was hamming it a bit. Usually what makes him a great host its how genuine and serious he can be about something absurd.

She was likely playing it up a bit as they often do (they know that breaking is an easy laugh from the crowd) as they will see their costumes before the final live skit.

When did you realize its total potential?
The dress rehearsal. They were in costume for the earlier rehearsals on Saturday with their wigs and outfits but not the prosthetics. It was funny to look back and see Ryan and know he was nodding along to what I was talking about. I could hear people giggle. But yes, the dress rehearsal was when the prosthetics made their debut — the noses and the mouths. I didn’t know about Mikey’s exposed gums and teeth.
Oh, that’s great, so this wasn’t a Stefon-esque moment sprung to you in the live show.
This makes me feel almost even worse and unprofessional. When I looked and saw Mikey in the dress rehearsal, I lost it. I was shocked. I’m thinking about it right now and laughing. I recovered and tried to tell myself in between dress and the live show, You can’t laugh like that again. I was trying to imagine seeing him in my head so I was prepared for it, but I just couldn’t prepare for what I saw. I really tried. I even saw Mikey out of the corner of my eye seconds before I went live. I saw the red shorts. I knew I couldn’t look over there again. Mikey even told me later that he was bending down and hiding himself so I wouldn’t see him.
