Without having a firm grasp on timelines or what any commitment is beyond exploration, this is a win for the UCP. Great step in the right direction.

Yep this is a step in the right direction for sure. I support this partnership with the other provinces.

Isn't the SMRs something that Bill Gates was working on? May be a perfect time to get Bill Gates involved. Would be a feather in the cap for a province to get a person like him involved.

Bought franking time, I've been on this for a long time as a great diversification idea into the clean energy world in a big way.

Now we need to be able to generate weapons grade materials and start up our Nuclear weapons industry (I kid on the last part of course)

Yep, this is a good move by the UCP and certainly has a lot of positive potential.

Echo the sentiment that it is a good move by the province. Looks to be very early stages though.

I love the idea, now let's see them implement it without a bunch of crony capitalism.

One would think that all the engineers that work in O&G should easily be transitioned into nuclear, solar, wind, etc.

Alberta should have a massive headstart on clean energy over the other provinces if they handle it correctly.

I see no reason why Alberta can't continue to be an energy leader in multiple energy fronts. The recent Tesla battery storage facility from TransAlta is a really cool portfolio. There is also massive solar projects going up around the province which is great to see. I would like to see how the small-scale nuclear program is put into action though - that will be a bit of a test.

I don't think any reasonable person sees O/G going away, it just will simply be a (gradually smaller but hugely important) piece of pie in our energy sector among other existing and new energy sources/technology. These new projects show confidence in the energy market which is great news at the moment.

so they are going to attempt to harness the annual meltdowns in Edmonton? good idea, could power the province for the forseeable future.

Wow. Good the UCP, this is a good idea and I'm sort of surprised they're doing it. But ya, totally on board

O&G will transition into specialized needs if the demand for actual 'fuel' goes down. Which it will with the rise of electric cars.

However, Alberta & Canada has proven that we can use natural gas as a clean energy source, and if we keep developing technology there, there is no reason we can massively reduce the overall emissions created.

This is a big part of what I want to see this Province do.

Use our resources to transition to a new energy source.

You want to puff out your chest and consider yourselves leaders in renewable energy, this is a great way to start!

Now...can we get Comrade Diyatlov to start training a new crop of Nuclear engineers? That guy sure knew his stuff!
