Yeah, not unless you jailbreak it.

Ha! I was just coming to post this. Like Mick says, free to the first 100000 ... get it now! I just picked it up but haven't given it a try yet.
Edit: Oh wow. That's VERY impressive.

I'll test it out tonight. I'm interested in the performance over 3G/Edge, and how much data it uses per song.
I rip all my music into Apple Lossless, so my files are pretty huge (about 25MB per song). Something tells me it's not going to stream that much data to me over Edge or even 3G.
I'll comment on it either tonight or tomorrow morning, though.

2.0.2 firmware is now out.. hopefully fixes some bugs, I'm tired of 10 second delays every time I open contacts.

I just noticed and I am downloading it right now. With a quick search, the most information I can find is that some things will be faster.
Considering how much more stable 2.0.1 was over 2.0.0, I figure there isn't too much to risk in downloading it now. I'd be a bit more hesitant if it was MS software.
Edit: I found this article, which has a little info in it. In playing with it a little, I find that the keyboard is more responsive, which is nice.

OK, so I played around with this tonight. It's actually extremely well built. Runs surprisingly smooth, even over 3G. I didn't find one instance of lag or hitching at all.
Data usage: I played a 4:27 song. It used 200kb Sent, and 6.5mb Received.

Ya this Simplify program is great. It sends almost the exact amount per song as it is saved on your computer. The coolest part is having access to all your friends' libraries.
Can't play DRM.

I don't know about that... All my songs are ripped in lossless (so the song I tested was 23mb), yet it only used about 7mb of data to stream it.
I haven't looked up their compression algorithm yet, so I have no idea what it actually is.

just off the top of my head, if you had average sized mp3's you could play about 23 hours of music and not reach the 6gb monthly limit. Of course that's doing nothing but stream music.
My numbers could be way off. Anybody with actual math skills out there please feel free to correct me.

Users and other publications have reported:- The update removes Jailbreak (hacked) apps.
- There are no new features in the Settings app.
- Transition from music list to Coverflow has changed.
- Inconsistent reports about 3G connectivity: Some say it's improved; some say it hasn't.
|
I didn't realize that was a standard thing for updates.

The music list to Cover Flow thing has changed for the better, for sure. It now actually works right away... I used to rotate my phone and have to wait almost 30 seconds for it to switch to Cover Flow.

For those of you looking for a decent notes app, check out Evernote. It's free and very well designed.

Sorry if this was mentioned before, but there is game for iPod called Phase. It is basically like Guitar Hero, but the game uses your own songs.

I use YouNote, which is also free. It is simple, but allows you to create item by taking a picture, a sound recording, a web site, a scribble pad or letting you type. It even can tag each item with your current GPS location. I like the fact that you can use a picture, since I can often take a quick picture of what I need to do.

I was using YouNote too. I really liked it, but I switched to Evernote because it not only lets you take pictures as notes, but it also indexes the text in the pictures and lets you search against it. (It also has the voice notes, geo-tagging, etc etc. And it syncs up with a website account as an option.)
I think it also has a cleaner interface, but that's an individual-taste thing.

Alright I used Simplify Media for a while at work today. I'm stuck on the EDGE network at work and still had surprisingly few hangups. I'm not sure of the streaming rates, I would guess normal is around 128, sounds decent. If it hangs up for too long, it streams the song at a lower rate and sounds quite crappy. Switching to the next song usually fixed it.
Data usage is approximately what was mentioned above, nothing out of control. What was out of control, though, was battery consumption. About two CDs worth of listening really depleted it. Not a huge surprise, but good to know now.
