The Islanders also have Ilya Sorokin in Russia who as a 19 and 20 year old, has been pretty stellar over there.

How about Philipp Grubauer out of Washington.
Although since he is signed for cheap for another season, I really don't see much urgency for Washington to trade him.

I am not sure about going with a young unproven goalie I think that plays with the fire that happened this year. Ortio was supposed to be good and sucked. I think we should get a more seasoned and proven goalie if we go young then I want an Allen or Gibson. Otherwise give me a vet or just sign Reimer

Wild trade rumors and speculation:
http://www.startribune.com/for-wild-...gun/377054871/
Quote:
He will have to decide whether to buy out Vanek, who is due $7.5 million next season. Making that move would create more salary-cap breathing room by turning his $6.5 million cap hit next season into $1.5 million next season and $2.5 million the following year.
Vanek ended the season with broken ribs, but as long as he’s medically cleared by June 15 or 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final — whichever is later — a buyout is permissible.
A buyout could enable the Wild to sign a Kyle Okposo or a David Backes in free agency, although Backes is 31 and signing vets to long-term deals has backfired on Fletcher in the past.
He will have to investigate trades. Kuemper is a likely candidate to be dealt. The moment Devan Dubnyk re-signed for six years last summer, Kuemper’s fate was sealed. Zucker, who finished the season with two goals and four assists in his final 37 games (including the playoffs) and was minus-3 in the Wild’s Game 6 loss to Dallas; and Dumba, who struggled dramatically down the stretch and in the playoffs, are trade candidates, too.
Will Fletcher dangle defensemen Jonas Brodin or Marco Scandella in the hope of acquiring a scorer or a top center? He also will soon need to decide whether to commit to Mikael Granlund and Nino Niederreiter long-term or potentially use them as trade bait. They each have a year left on their contracts before they become restricted free agents.
|
If Brodin, Scandella, and Dumba are on the table, have to imagine the Oilers would make a good trade partner with RNH and/or Eberle as main pieces.

Won't be the least bit surprised to see BT trade for Kuemper.
Has played well in the NHL in limited time, has really solid AHL numbers, is the right age at 25, and as a bonus is a western Canadian kid.
Athletic goalie with size.

Keumper trade + sign Reimer...
Reimer
Keumper
That tandem is a hell of a lot better than last season.

I actually like the Krump-cake.
Willing to give him a shot for sure. IMO he actually played better in his starts than most of Dubynks games.

Keumper would be interesting. He also wouldn't cost an arm and a leg to acquire, unlike say an Anderson or a Bishop. I'd be comfortable seeing what a Keumper / Ortio tandem can do.

Why ?
He had pretty solid numbers for a weak Toronto team. He also put up really good numbers with a good SJ Team.
Free Asset if you sign him, and the goalie market is a buyers one right now. Can likely get him on a cheapish two year deal

That would likely be another year out of the playoffs. You do need some adult supervision between the pipes. Reimer on a short term contract meets the need. Keumper would be a great pickup, but he replaces Ortio in the big picture, not play in tandem with him.

1. Sign Reimer
2. Trade Ortio plus a pick (Flames 3rd? Flames 2nd?) for Kuemper
I think that'd be a solid tandem.
Ortio can/would be a cheaper back up behind Dubnyk.

I'd rather keep ortio as a backup to reimer than give up an asset to get Kuemper as backup

I get that.
I imagine if BT trades for Kuemper it will be because he sees him as starter material (ala Jones, Talbot and Lehner last off-season), and not to be a back up to higher priced UFA signing.
Maybe do the Kuemper deal, and sign a lower profile UFA like Raanta instead.
Let them duke it out for the starter role.

You keep saying this but that doesn't mean you are right. Reimer would be a mistake on a $5 million/season long term deal but at the right price he would be a solid addition to the Flames and a major upgrade on last season's goaltenders.

I keep coming back to wanting a proven product in net. We have enough guys we are counting on to take the next step on D and in the top 9 that we need stability in net.
Ma Fleury will do
