Fresh cooks more evenly.

I get how thawed cooks better than frozen, but how does fresh change the equation?

If it's packaged half decently and frozen at a low enough temp you'll never, ever notice a difference.

Short answer. The fresh vs frozen thing is mostly like a&w's no hormones stuff. Just marketing.

I've also got a bit of a dark horse burger that you might add to your quest from what is an unlikely source. The "Hold Your Wild Horses Habanero Burger" from the Wild Horse Pub at the Deerfoot Inn.

Two 4oz. Patties grilled & stacked with Applewood
Smoked Cheddar & topped with a Habanero Spread,
BBQ Mayo, Crisp Onions, Lettuce & Tomato.

Had one last week. Delicious.

Since we are talking about chain restaurants, I know Applebee’s can be bad, but I had the quesadilla burger there once. I wouldn’t say it’s a high quality patty, but it was pretty tasty “burger” nonetheless.

By the way, are you guys only doing beef burgers or are you going to stray into chicken or fish burgers?

Yay. I'm not kidding when I say I could probably live on just Hamburgers and I really enjoyed the original Burger Quest.

When you freeze then thaw meat, you lose moisture/ juices, there fore you also lose some of the the natural flavours, seasonings, spices and the fixings will alter the taste much more then the freezing thawing process however. Everytime you freeze then thaw meat, it will lose osome of the natural flavours and juices.

For food safety reasons, I would still choose a restraunts that uses frozen patties vs a restraunts that uses "fresh" patties. Fresh ground beef ideally should be used within 24 hrs of being ground.

It’s ok I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. I think their regular burgers are better. My wife likes it a lot more than I do I always feel let down when I get it.

Native tongues actually has a really good burger. We had it the other day because it was a happy hour special, and were pleasantly surprised.

It's a shame yours was overcooked. I've had it a few times and it's been outstanding each time. The only reason I had it in the first place was because they had removed the double dog off the menu for a period of time. It was the only thing I ate when I went there so I had to pick something different and I went for the A.C.E. burger which was a pleasant surprise. Now that the double dog is back I have to flip a coin to decide.

My go to quasi fast food burger is the Fatburger California burger. Guacamole makes it.

For home burgers, the smoker makes the best hamburgers. From fresh ground beef, of course.

The only burger I order from Fatburger is their "The Works" turkey burger. So good!

Default The Burger Thread!

Did you eat that entire thing with the dried out patty or were you able to send it back for a new one?

As a recommendation, I think the burgers at Silver Sage in the Calgary Farmers Market are pretty tasty. The fries are okay, but the urban bistro burger is really good. Although I guess the guacamole probably wouldn’t be appreciated.
