Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Pending UFA Mike Smith says “for sure” he’d like to be back in Calgary. Says it’s an organization committed to winning, which is what he wants to be a part of. #Flames

There's a greater than 50% chance mike smith is back in Calgary next year IMO because much like Elliott, it won't be about the best goalie available, but the best goalie available under 3.5 million.

I'm not sure it's as much "go near Johnny and get pummeled" as it is a player that can physically neutralize / rub out a defender in order to give Johnny space.

The one thing I loved about Ferland's game last year was the handful of occasions when he stapled someone to the boards in the offensive zone, basically taking that player out of the play and freeing up the ice for Johnny - Mony to score.

You don't need a goon, but rather someone who can free up ice through their style of play.

They beat up and out hit the Avs in game 1 and won. Then they realized, "damn this hurts" and reverted back to being soft and then losing the next 4.

As Tom Wilson, Ryan Reeves and others are showing, the big man that can skate is becoming a key ingredient on a successful roster.

The last 4 games? Tkachuk pretty much mailed it in after the Matthews contract signing. Well thanks for the hometown discount Matt!

Based on how the playoffs went, Monahan should play as much hockey as possible between now and September to try and get some confidence and swagger back. Maybe have some fun playing again, because what he showed didn't look like any fun at all.

The way he was playing I just assumed Monahan was nursing an injury or two.

That’s concerning.

Yeah I don’t get that either.

Flames got outskated and outworked by the Avs all series, looking very slow at times....yup better at some toughness and grit to the roster.

Speed (especially up the middle) needs to the be the focus.

Eric Francis @EricFrancis
James Neal "I’ve got a lot to prove. I now I can put the work in to get back to where I know I can be. It was a tough year for sure."

Kristen Anderson @KdotAnderson
James Neal: "That was hard. I've never had to go through that in my career. That was a tough pill to swallow. For me, I think, going forward, you take it. Be honest with yourself ... and come back and have something to prove... (cont'd)"

... it was a tough year, for sure. We've got a great group of guys here. It's tough when you're not producing like you should be."

"I want to be a top-six guy who is counted on to score goals. I want to be an impact players. I've scored 20-plus goals in every one of my years except this year. I know I can get back to being the type of player."

Has this hard-hitting media group been able to connect with James Neal yet to see if he'll accept his invite to the World's?

I can't believe this based on his play.

I still remember, can't remember exactly when maybe even 2 seasons ago when he took the puck on the PP, skated with it, curled around and launched an insane wrister that pinged off the post.

I haven't seen him put that much power into a shot since then, and there's just no action on his shot these days (whether it's tips or elevation from in tight that he's known for).

So we can finally put that "was Monahan injured in the playoffs?" argument to bed, tons of players have little injuries and bumps they carry into the playoffs. Almost wish this wasn't true so that his invisible performance in the playoffs made a bit more sense.

Still very interested in what Tre has to say about his top players performances in the playoffs. Will he place emphasis on inexperience or lack of competitiveness. Any ideas when Tre is supposed to talk today?
