Who cares if he goes in without a logo on his cap. Sounded like it was more they couldn't decide one over the other rather then trying to snub either team.

few days late but see no mention of it, so worth touching on the passing of Frank Robinson, MVP in both leagues, one of the top 5 sluggers of all time when he retired and the first African American manager in the MLB- a life worthy of celebration

What do people think of the rule proposals? I am sure everyone will be fine with the pitch clock. And personally I am good with the DH in both leagues.
But the three batter minimum for new pitchers? I personally like that also but the lefty specialist will become a thing of the past. Which is fine with me.

I hear you but there was a time when pitchers were capable of hitting. Arguably a DH isn't much worse than continuous pinch hitters but speeds up the game.

I personally like the DH. It ensures that fans see the better players playing. Watching Bruce Botch use 6 pitchers and double switching 3 times in 2 innings is a continual dilltion of talent in the game being played.
Put in a pitch clock and limit mound visits by the manager and pitching coach. We all know most of these are delay tactics to let relievers get ready.

It has never actually added anything of value to the induction or the plaque, while only creating strife in a small number of cases.

From Steve Simmons column today
Quote:
On Dec. 9, 2013, Roy Halladay signed one of those semi-meaningless one-day contracts with the Blue Jays, in order to retire with the team that drafted him and developed him.
That day, the signing meant something to a proud Halladay. It meant something for him to say thanks to the Blue Jays and their fans.
So what happened between then and now for the Halladay family and the Blue Jays after the late pitcher was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame? The determination was made by the family there would be no team designation on the baseball cap of Halladay’s Hall of Fame bust, which has bothered some Blue Jays fans.
No one is saying for certain what happened here except there is evidence the Philadelphia Phillies treated Halladay’s family with incredible reverence after the pitcher died in a plane crash. When the Hall of Fame announcement was made, for example, the Phillies sent the owner’s Learjet to Florida to fly Halladay’s family to New York and arrange for them to be driven to the St. Regis Hotel.
The Phillies also responded with a more respectful approach immediately upon Halladay’s passing. Whatever Halladay himself felt in 2013, six years later, his family didn’t necessarily feel the same way.

Like players that aren't able to play a position in the field?

I’m good with whatever gives his family the most comfort and peace
I’m not gonna to try to even guess what all this has been like for them
So if this is what they want so be it

The pitcher still gets to field his position, but at least with a DH there isn't an offensive black hole / automatic out coming up to the plate once every 3 innings at a minimum.

Pitchers and catchers reported starting today.
there are over 100 free agents still unsigned.
What a dumb league.

Yeah a DH is as adept at fielding as a pitcher is at hitting.

Kind of funny that the league without a salary cap is the one where the owners have collectively quit outbidding each other for expensive free agents.

I'd actually argue that your average DH is much, much better at fielding than your average pitcher is at hitting.

I am shocked Boras hasn’t had words to claim there’s a conspiracy. He does it every year. Why not this one as well? We all know the Yanks and Sox don’t care about any team but themselves but even they’ve somewhat wised up to the crazy contracts so it really makes you wonder how much these guys overvalued themselves. Only way Harper and Machado do sign is a shorter contract with a high dollar value. Saves face for them.

Because it's real money.
Hockey owners know they can sign stars for crazy money and then pay a plug the minimum to stay under the cap. They are protected. Baseball you gotta pay everyone their real value, or have a crappy team forever.

How is this a valid argument? Did Roy Halladay last as a better starter than reliever due to his hitting proficiency? It's the same as saying you better be a reliver because you can't hit well enough to justify 3 plate appearances.
We see pitchers throwing good games pulled from games in the 6th inning because their turn comes up in the order.
I'd rather see teams be able to place a dedicated hitter in the middle of the order and than be able to put 8 better players in the field because they don't havecto worry about two auto outs in the order with the pitcher.

The thing that bugs me is that it's different in both leagues. Personally I'd rather have the DH but at least be consistent with it.

I'm on the opposite side of the fence. I want to see 5 tool players. I want to see pitchers who can hit and are not just auto outs. I'm all for the strategy of does the pitcher hit to pitch the next inning or not. With shifts and everything else, I want to see more balls in play. So bunt it down the third base line, have the pitcher do a sac bunt to advance the runner. Alas, I know that I'm in the minority and it's only a matter of time (i'm saying 2022) to when the league is completely DH

Pitcher is more or less an automatic out. I get that you have to strategize around that when the pitcher is late in the game, but from an entertainment perspective, you may as well take your washroom break at that time. It simply doesn't work, and frankly is anti-climatic. When it does work it it's great, but in today's market where it's all about entertainment, pitchers batting is a virtual snoozefest. I'm sure it'll eventually go. Hard to fathom that because baseball has been so traditional, but they're willing to change in the past couple years.
