pretty sure he didn't get traded because nobody wanted him all that badly and honestly I don't really care if he "walks" in the off season

Sorry I worded this so crappy. I think it is possible that Burke knew that he couldn't lose so much experience at one time and had decided that no matter what Stajan was getting all the time he needed to deal with his tragedy, which is totally the right thing. So, again me making an assumption, he set a price for Cammy and wouldn't move off it, so either he got what he wanted or he kept Cammy for the experience.

I am not a Cammy fan either but just maybe Burke had to think business wise also and decided that keeping Cammy turned out to be important for the balance of this year. He can still trade him at the draft or leading up to free agency for some sort of pick.

Amazing how ineffective Cammalleri has been this year. For a guy in a contract year, he could be costing himself millions.

He could still be playing hurt with his wrist injury and the concussion probably threw him off his game.

He's no Tanguay, still shows up and stands up for his teammates. He might be this year's Derek Roy and have to take a haircut based on an off year (where he's still on pace for 20 goals).

...it's not like he's struggling on purpose.

Cammalleri is, and always has been a shooter. He's a finisher. He needs a playmaker on his line in order to be effective 5 on 5.

We don't have one of those.

And that's a good thing? If he's useless because he's hurt he shouldn't be playing.

Either way he should just go to another team. At least a guy like Stajan contributes. Missing the net multiple times in the Islanders game pretty much killed any desire for me to see him play for us.

Watching him backcheck like a mofo in the same game pretty much rekindled desire for me to see him play for us.

I expect much more from a 6m player than what Cammy is providing the Flames.
Cammy is only as good as the playmaker he plays along side. I don't share the same opinion on Cammy as some of the fanbase does. He has mailed in quite a number of shifts during any given game.

You opinion generally aligns perfectly with what the majority of fans are thinking.

Honestly saw it coming a year ago. He's been pretty much useless for a while and that's even in games he scores.

He has lost his passion for the game or at least that's what it appears as an outsider. He has heart, no one could argue that but he just hasn't shown it for a long time. I think he'll get it back at some time, but just not for us.

From Garrioch's column today:

The reason Burke didn’t trade Mike Cammalleri: The best the Flames were being offered was a third-round pick. Calgary wasn’t willing to swallow that deal

http://www.ottawasun.com/2014/03/15/...he-first-round

Lyle Richardson responds:

No wonder the Flames opted not to move Cammalleri at the deadline. A third-round pick is an insulting offer.

http://spectorshockey.net/blog/sunda...march-16-2014/

Even Eric Francis agreed (pre-deadline):

A third-rounder in return would be considered a fail unless the deal also includes a decent prospect.

http://www.calgarysun.com/2014/03/03...ion-for-flames

I guess the best we can hope for from this point on is a re-signing or Cammy continues to light it up and we get a pick for his rights.

If Cammy played the way he has played post deadline in the games leading up to the deadline he would have gotten the flames more tha a 3rd. He has been great the past few games

No doubt he's playing better, but I'm not convinced it would've mattered on the trade market. GM's know what he can do. You don't reevaluate a player every few games.

Cammy had a concussion this season if memory serves right, takes a while to come back from something like that. He is playing very well.
We will get more for him than a 3rd.

And when will we get that? The ship has sailed to get anything for him now unless someone trades for his rights, which I doubt happens.

We could also sign him and trade him next year or the year after.

Plenty of options.

Simple, when we sign him to extra money than he is worth.
Retaining, part of his contract and trading him to a contender.
They will pay pennies on the dollar, we will get something and Cammy will be happy.
