Could we develop a cool game around trout (flyfishing)? Think of all the cards there could be for different flies. Trying to match flies to insect hatches, to attract feeding fish. Different gear and tackle. Different conditions. VPs for trout landed.
Arkham Horror the Card Game is on sale on Amazon today, 37% off. Ticket To Ride, Mysterium and Pandemic also up there for good deals.
Arkham card game is a lot of fun, I'm not into that universe enough to keep up with the 'subscription' monthly release model like I did LOTR, but it's still a great game.

Well you could definitely develop a game and there is a market. How cool it might be is another matter though!
Wingspan is a smash hit, and winning awards. Who ever thought a game about birds would be so popular?
I haven't played it yet, but colour me skeptical that a game that has been out for a few months is the #1 family game and #30 best boardgame of all time. I'm going to put more weight on the 6.37 rating from by geekbuddies on this one.
The Cult of the New is insane on BGG, and in the hobby boardgaming community in general.

I watched Wingspan played about a month or so ago, and everyone playing it seemed to be enjoying themselves, but no one was particularly blown away by it. As I say I was just watching for about a half hour of it, and it looked very pretty in execution and a well thought out concept, but I think "absolutely amazing" might be a bit much.
Still, different strokes.

I think it is a good game, great game if you like birds. The expansion seems to make some improvements towards the dominating egg strategy. Some would say Wingspan is a lighter cousin of Terraforming Mars.
I like Wingspan a lot because you can play it in under an hour. So we can get a heavier game in and then finish off with Wingspan at our game nights. It offers enough variety and is very interesting, so at that length it fills a niche for us.
What is a good family boardgame that isn't over an hour and isn't too complicated? My 9 year has ADHD, and longer complicated games can get frustrating. He likes Catan, and we've played ticket to ride. I did buy My Little Scythe, but it was too complicated. I'm tired of Catan and UNO, which seem to be the go-to games. We have all the usual games, monopoly, life, etc. Just looking for something new. Something that isn't too crazy with rules, but still has enough to keep us engaged. The Marvel Champions is intriguing. He loves the Avengers.

Try Thanos Rising, it's a great dice rolling game where you collect heros and take out Thanos and his baddies before he gets all the infinity stones. I love it.
Also if Marvel is not your thing they just came out with a Harry Potter and Star Wars version as well.
