Jermain Franklin @TSNJFranklin
Source with in the #Flames organization told me there's no update quite yet on Neal... Interesting scenario I've been mulling over but not ready to share yet;-)

Well if you’re not going to tell, then folks just have to fill the vacuum with rampant speculation
Are you suggesting a Marion Hossa type ‘LTIR’ situation...

We have seen with Stone, that he isnt on LTIR since they are below the cap. Would that not be the same thing with Neal?

Much confuse.
He IS injured. So how can there be any other juicy nugget behind it to warrant secrecy? Not like they're trading an injured guy. Only thing would be LTIR if it's an injury that kills the rest of his season.

Maybe Neal and the team are considering he sits out the season on IR and rests up for next year. He has two active injuries going and has played like a couple hundred games the last two years.
Or he can sit out until the salary cap goes away for playoffs right?

As far as replacements go, i'm just hoping for someone with speed and strength. Lazar fits the bill IMO. Having a slow guy on each of our top 3 lines is somewhat of a weekness with this team, perhaps a faster bottom 6 will open up some more space.
Get well soon Neal, and come back hungry.

Re: Jermain's oddly vague comment,
Maybe the Flames and Neal have been considering a surgery on a nagging injury. Debating waiting till off season or get it done now and hope for a return for some time in the post season. Maybe this recent injury pushed them in a certain direction.
All completely hypothetical and not based on anything.

If he was fighting an injury all year, then that would actually be somewhat of a relief and at least give him an excuse for his poor play.

True.
And if it is, i suspect they dont want to say anything about it until they are done any dealing that they are going to do. Would weaken their position a bit i would suggest.

Kypreos on HNIC said the injury may be worse than what the Flames initially thought

Franklin is about as uniformed on the Flames as Kypreos. His questions in pressers, dating now back almost a decade to the Sutter days, at best are either repeating a question earlier, or asking a leading, cliched question that is going to be providing cliched answer, or at worst, asking something cringe worthy or awkward, where its clear he didn’t hear the answer to a question earlier and either. He provides no insight, has broken no story that I can recall, just files his reports back to TSN as requested.
At least Shannon and his “Backlund could be gone a while” is semi plausible because Shannon at least has guys he can ask on the ground.
Flames didn’t provide an update on Neal before the game, and are likely not yet landed from Pittsburgh yet.

I think the point that was being poorly made was that the Flames didn’t want to decrease their trade negotiation position by publically announcing that Neal is injured...teams may up-the-price is the theory
