I don’t understand why two people can’t get together over a whisky and split the differences. This is so embarrassing.

300M and the land for free... Still not enough of a sweetener.
Why dont the flames ownership just tell the truth? And say they will move the team unless they get a 100% tax-payer funded arena.
Anything other than that is semantics and posturing.

So it’s Gondek trying to change the deal
“The Flames have pulled out of the deal because I changed the deal”

Photovoltaics are the climate mitigations.
Sounds like they were attached to the approval of the development permit.

I must be living under a rock. I didn't know until now what the cacophony surrounding bill 21 was. I don't know what the deal is with "climate mitigation" what is that all about?
I just want to watch hockey and go to games when I can.

Cut the condescending attitude. People don't always have to agree with everything you say.

Well there is the Flames side of it. Still feels like nixing the deal was pretty unreasonable at this stage over it. Strong-arm negotiation or Murray telling Gondek to eff off.

Because there is a deal in place that already clarifies how these costs are addressed. See Pikes tweet as a starting point...

CMLC is going to be put back in charge.
That's my take.

Oilers, according to Forbes, are worth $1.1 billion. Flames are worth $680 million in a bigger market. Flames with a new arena would likely be worth close to $1.2 billion. So this is Edwards pissing away almost $600 million in franchise value over $9 million if you believe all this at face value (I don’t).

When your partner is doing business in bad faith (changing the deal at the 11th hour), you shouldn’t be in business with that partner.
Gondek then coming out and saying the Flames are pulling out of the deal while she changes what that deal is reeks of politician garbage.

There shouldn't be any public money going to this project. Taxpayers should have had time to review the proposal before their elected representatives, most of whom are no longer on council and never had to defend their vote to the public, voted to give the Flames hundreds of millions of dollars of public funds.

Changing the deal and then blaming the Flames?
I get Murray is a bit of a Tool at times but this is specifically Gondek/City changing the agreed deal and then pushing it off as CSECs fault… sad.

At this point, I'm on the City's side. They have been more than generous in providing funds, assets, and overrun costs from the taxpayer dime (over $300M). CSEC already moved to change the deal in July, and the City agreed to share cost overruns. If any issues with infrastructure come along in a complex project like this - not to mention the larger master plan considerations, then it's the City that has to bring it up and be blamed as the "bad guy" as I'm sure is CSEC is going to position them - once again. Effectively they want the city to cover more and more of the project - more creeping costs for the taxpayer.
The Flames are awesome, but Murray Edwards and CSEC can go pound sand.
