Flames 7 Blues 1

Sorry for the delay, late kids hockey practice last night. Game wasn't on my birthday officially but I was late enough in catching up that it moved into my timeline by the time I went to bed! Didn't get my score though, I'm not 71.

- Gaudreau has a superstar night
- Tkachuk almost equally as impressive with 5 assists
- Monahan with another good effort
- Ruzicka shows he's settling in and could be an answer

Almost?

He was a beast last night and likely should have had a couple goals on top of his passing display.

Agree about Monahan too. Looks like he needed the time taken to get up to speed. Not only looking better....looking dangerous when he gets his chances.

Oh and....Happy Birthday....you may not be 71, but i bet you feel like it some days!

After watching Ruzicka's game last night I couldn't help but think of Andrew Mangiapane. His entire first NHL season he was completely invisible, and made no perceivable impact on the ice through ten games. For a lot of these guys it takes time. I am fairly encouraged about Ruzicka's long-term prospects after tonight.

Is there anything sweeter than Johnny's top corner money shot? Goaltenders know it's coming but he puts just under the crossbar, inside the post, making it impossible to stop. He's got one of the best wrist shots I've seen in some time as the accuracy is phenomenal especially when coming in at breakaway speeds.

Agreed. His shot is underrated, I remember a lot of us were pretty much yelling at the TV for Johnny to shoot a couple seasons ago.

We’d be fools not to retain him, so I hope we are doing everything we can to keep him because we’re very spoiled to have drafted him and see an almost career PPG player in a Flames sweater.

Fixed!

5-2 was looking very possible until they went off late in the second.

Pretty good for a guy who uses a flex of about 55 IIRC. It worries me that with such a whippy stick it takes more time to load up the shot, but I guess his stick is so short that it compensates. And it does seem he has a bit of skill too.

It's also why guys like Gaudreau and Phillips don't make for great penalty killers. They have so little reach for getting sticks in lanes etc.

Johnny uses a 67 or 70. 55 is the flex of a kid's stick.

Can we get an updated pic of his stick? It’s true that he used a 55 in college but I had seen that he’d been convinced to use an intermediate flex which is 67 or 70.

I would imagine Johnny’s developed a fair bit more upper body strength since college and must use a stiffer stick.
