I would like to know this as well....

I have a 5" filter and wouldn't a 1" bounce around in the slot?

Actually ....instead of a 5" filter here are some other options.....these are for fiberglass disposable filter only.

Take ( 2 ) 1" filters tape them together and they won't bounce around .
OR
Go to home hardware and buy a 2" box filter.

These are 1/4 the cost of 3m, Kirkland, woven or pleated filters .

Box filters are dangerous. The literature that they come with states these filters can be used for 90 plus days....FALSE!!!
Every burnt out motor I repair has one of these filters in place guaranteed and motors ...(ECM) in particular are pricing at over 2 thousand right now....so don't make this mistake.

It comes as no surprise, but Keith continues to be an absolute legend and a business everyone here should be using.

Thanks again for the fantastic work today Keith, (on a Saturday morning no less), and its always a pleasure to chat and catch up.

I am assuming the following is best then?

I have a family member who's blower motor recently went. In -20 weather. It was pretty stressful but they got it fixed after a couple days. The root cause (I think) was using those 3M filters that are way too restrictive. They shouldnt even sell them. No one should be using them

Over the holidays my repair company is doing only NO HEAT emergencies only at Chestemere heating 403-272-9976.
They are the top Carrier Dealer in Canada and were named as such in April of this year.

I called these guys this morning as my furnace went out last night and by the afternoon they had a guy out and it was back in service. 10/10 would recommend!

Keith,

I am wondering if your company does duct repair or other HVAC work from a flow perspective? My parents basement I don't think ever had the proper intake vent's work properly when they did it. The basement is always very cold, but much colder than you would think with the furnace running as long as you would think. It's almost like the cold air can't escape and only a little warm air comes.

Also do you service apartment building style boilers? An 8 suite unit ?

Thanks!

Hi
Call my installer at Chestemere heating 403-272-9976...they do sheet metal fabrication and would be a great resource for information, material, installation in that basement.....issues could also be due to an underperforming furnace regardless of age.
75 +% of new furnaces are installed incorrectly and this is a huge common issue.

As for apartment boilers call Trust Plumbing at 403-465-4088 and ask for Ray the owner and tell em the furnace guy referred their services.

I have noticed a significant increase in dust in the house recently and didn't think my furnace was performing well during the cold snap in December/January. It was also extremely cold and the furnace was working hard.

I never use the 3M filters but have used filters that are a have a lower MERV rating like 5, 6 etc. Are those that bad? I switched to the cheapest filters now and have noticed the dust is incredible in the house.

A recent furnace inspection indicated that the furnace was clean and in good working order, he indicated that the filter I had (cheapest available) wasn't very good and that I needed to make an adjustment to the humidifier to prevent dust circulating in the house. He didn't specify anything on what to do.

Bottom line, outside of vent cleaning, any harm in going to a higher grade filter with MERV rating of 5, 6, 7 etc? Anything you can recommend for humidifier and also when we may be looking at for a spring clean? How often should we have our ducts cleaned?

Thanks!
