Why would MAF accept a trade? Wouldn't he be way better off if he got bought out and then signed during FA?

They would probably just let him get claimed before they bought him out, no?
If the expansion team took him then Pits lose out on possibly acquiring assets, but are off the hook for his salary. If he decides not to waive his NMC he basically is risking getting picked up by LV, which may or may not matter to him.

Right, good point. I am not as up to speed on this stuff as the rest of you guys, forgot about the NMC thing.. I'll slink back to the off topic forum now.

Correctly me if I'm wrong, isn't the Pens need to protect him because of his NMC, and they will have to expose Murray?

There's going to be a buyout window before the expansion draft.

The goalie market is so weird. Everyone needs a good one but nobody will pay up for one.

Spoke with a Western conference executive today saying at least 2 playoff teams in the West (including his own) would be interested in Iginla at the deadline.

MAF's partial NTC only lets him list 12 teams he won't accept a trade to. If the Pens can find a taker with the other 18 teams, he won't get a say.

Which division was the executive a part of?

From what I hear and its just a rumor , it sounds like the Canadiens could be looking at trading for Simmonds this coming trade deadline or earlier. Marc Bergervin likes the style of play that Simmonds brings.
Quote:
When asked about his natural affiliation with Montreal, Simmonds answered "Some members of my family live in Montreal. Rumors keep sending me there and to be honest it's common I receive photoshopped pictures with my face in a Habs Jersey which obviously makes me laugh".
What does he really think of those rumors?
“It's part of the business..” said Simmonds

Goaltenders are largely dependent on the systems and players in front of them to succeed, far more than players at any other position. So yes, while there are teams looking for goaltending every year, unless a guy like Carey Price or Corey Schneider is available then acquiring a goalie is not going to make up for icing a garbage team and/or having flaccid coaching.
I'm not convinced, for example, that the Flames would have made the playoffs last year, even notwithstanding the Hiller/Ramo/Ortio rotating clown show. Bob's systems simply didn't work and generated too many golden opportunities for the opposition. That's pretty much the story for every team looking for a shakeup in net - better to address other issues first that are making the goaltending look bad. Elliott and Johnson have been far from spectacular overall but there are bigger fish to fry at the moment (RW/D).

It doesn't matter how interested they are; unless the Habs are willing to give up Price (ha!), I highly doubt the Flyers would trade Simmonds.

Insider trading:
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider-...uchene~1049043
high interest and high price for Duchene
no firm offers on table right now
asking price 3 or 4 high end pieces
if it is 3 pieces, the main pieces must be a establsihed young player 20-24 years old plus 1st round pick plus top prospect
if the player isn't established it must be 4 high end pieces including the player
Canadiens are all in
Hanzal is a perfect fit for Montreal, but Bergevin still has to do some heavy lifting for that trade to happen
10 teams have made serious inquiries on Hanzal and the Coyotes are whittling that list down
several teams including the Bruins and Rangers have made inquiries into Shattenkrik
there is a possibility that it is a sign and trade for Shattenkirk so the Blues receive more in return but no team has made that offer yet
every single call on Shattenkirk is for rental only
Shattenkirk is expected to ask for a 7 or 8 year deal in $7mil + /year
some teams have him ranked as a 3rd pairing d-man who is a PP specalist
Avs are flush with rental players
lots of conversations on Bourque, Mitchell, Martinson amongst other
Rene Boruque is in high demand as a rental, but may have suffered an injury last night
teams are calling and Sens are listening to offers on Lazar, but aren't ready to give up on him yet
asking price is extremely high
LeBrun believes Hitchcock might coach again ONLY IF he feels comfortable with and trusts the GM
