I have been saying that it didn’t matter who the flames traded the team performance wouldn’t drop off because they didn’t really have any players that stood out that much.

I think they just proved me wrong.

That first period was embarrassing. They almost couldn’t get out of their own end.

After the worst loss, and maybe two losses of the season, you'd think the captain would or should be the one that the Flames themselves trot out to say some words/take some responsibility post game.

Well, they sort of did, in Coleman, who, besides Tanev is one of the leaders on the team and on most other teams would have a C, nevermind an A.

And, Hunt.

Kylington isn't a regular NHLer?

I only watched the highlights, but here are a few things that stood out:
* There's a book on Pachal, because faking a shot freezes him out of position. The Canes did it on two of their goals.
* The Huberdeau - Sharangovich - Coronato line was giving up too many grade A chances against in the first two periods, and then were broken up.
* Andersson looked like he gave up on the game half way through the game.
* Too many odd-man rushes against.
* We really miss Pospisil, and Zary.
* Great rush and setup by Kylington on the first goal.

None.

Teams that win the Cup have almost always been contenders (therefore not in a rebuild) for several years first.

Boston maybe. They only missed the playoffs for 2 years.

From 2004-06 they drafted Krejci , Kessel(Seguin), Marchand, and Lucic.

They had Bergeron in the system from 2003.

They signed UFAs Thomas and Chara, and traded for the rest of their D.

It still took them until 2011-12 to win the cup, and they lost in the 2nd round in the two prior years.

Yep, that's about as close as it gets.

But if the criterion for the end of a rebuild is ‘won Stanley Cup’, there are plenty of teams that have been in a rebuild since the day they joined the league. This does not strike me as a useful way to define the term.

You knew this wasn’t going to go well when two minutes in there is a phantom penalty and then the game was delayed from a clock issue.

Found it hilarious the NHL allows a 5 minute delay to get 2s added to the clock but taking 30s to review a penalty is not allowed.

All the ultra tankers aren't looking at the real issue with their plan. Pospisil is coming back from suspension.

Zero shots on goal at the 18 minute mark of the first period told me all I needed to know.

Was at the game (received tickets as a Christmas gift). I had a gut feeling this one was going to be rough and yea, I don't need to say anything else. Carolina was playing like a team that is playing for the Cup. We looked like a team that just wanted to get out of there.

I seriously thought there must have been rule change allowing Toronto or someone to review a clear mistaken call (like they do with a high stick now).

He missed more than a year. He’s currently in normal preseason form. Decisions are taking too much thinking instead of being reflexive.

He made a pretty sweet play on the 1st goal.

Also in both this game and the Florida game - it wasn't like the veterans or non-waiver wire guys weren't getting caved in as well. Hard to blame it on those guys when the Weegar, Anderssons and even Backlunds are getting dusted as well.

I had it on in the background at work and...well...it wasn't pretty.

Pretty much everything that could go wrong did. Now...in my mind the only question I'm concerned with was:

"Was that a one-off laying an egg on a Matinee game against a very good team? Or...is that what this team is now after all of these trades?"

I am not distressed that the Flames lost back to back matinees against elite teams. It confirms that this team is not a contender ( duh) but shouldn't distract the Flames from the primary goal, which is player development. I hope and will cheer to keep pushing for a playoff spot.

Well, at least the Flames will be well rested. They put in a solid what, 2 minutes of effort spread out over the 120 minutes of play time? Nobody not wearing goalie pads even broke a sweat, much less needed to have a shower after the game.

Pathetic effort. I know they don’t have the talent to win a lot of games, but they at least should be putting in an effort. These two games were ridiculous.
