Default Thanks Sam

Thanks to Sam for his 400 games played in Flames colors, although it didn't go as everyone had hoped, I have a sneaking feeling Flames management might regret this trade. you were a beast in the playoffs and I for one believed you deserved better coming into this season. Anyways thanks 93, all the best in Florida

You were also turning it around recently. When you were on, you were one of my favorite players. Come back to Calgary after dominating in the playoffs!

The four goal game will always be an incredible memory.

That games was also in the minds of the Panthers organization still since it was against them. Now they paid more for him than the other teams would've!

The true payoff of that 4 goal game!

I mean there's generally a cut off for prospects taking a step forward. I strongly feel Bennett is a couple, if not a few years past that cut off. If he does somehow turn into something more then all the power to him.

Most prospects that blossom after struggling aren't this far into their careers.

He was a consistently strong playoff performer who exceeded expectations. I loved how he was a glue type that was quick to protect his team mates, and really set the tone on many nights with his big hits.

Really wish it worked out better for him here than it did, but I hope that he goes on to have a long career, and manages to improve and become a more proficient scorer. I am sure there is something there still that can come out, but his days of being looked upon as a future franchise-level centre are behind him. I think he can become an important piece - maybe even a 2nd line centre with time. Hope he gets there, especially out in Florida.

I'll be cheering for the Panthers in the playoffs this year

I hope Bennett can turn into what we've always hoped and the Flames re-aqquire him in a deadline deal for a future playoff run

Well, Sam is 24. How did Backlund fare before and after 24?

Under NHL coaches (Hartley, Sutter), he was all right. I think his new coach isn’t bad either, from what I can tell

Good luck to Benny, looking forward to seeing how things go for him

I wish him well. I really did want him to become the player that he showed glimpses of being. Especially after all of the opportunities that he has this year, I don’t think he ever was going to become that here. Sometimes it’s time for a mutual breakup. Hopefully both parties can be better because of it.

If Sam is huge in Florida, you can’t assume he’d ever achieve that status here. Sometimes it just doesn’t work and a change allows things to fall into place.

I really hope to see him be a big part in a deep Panthers run but I think we are in a position where we can only really look forward and make the best of a situation that wasn’t working out.

I remember a regular season game against the Colorado Avalanche where the Flames were down by several goals, and then Sam got into a fight with one the Avalanche defenders (I thought it was a big hit) and then the Flames came back to win game in the 3rd period.

Or the game this season where the Flames were down 2-0, and then Ward reunited the Lucic-Bennett-Dube line late in the first, and they had a dominant shift resulting in a goal, the team went on to win that game 4-3 in OT.

Wish we would have seen more of that Sam Bennett spark that would light a fire under the team to propel it to victory.

Best of luck in Florida, Sam.

What are you talking about? This is 18 year old Sam Bennet. He'll always be 18 year old Sam Bennet. Lots of time.

The older I get, the more I experience some sadness when a player moves on. I guess maybe part of that is Sam not living up to expectations.

Best of luck to you Bennett.

I miss the days of 18-year-old Sam Bennett, just because there was so much hope and excitement around the team back then. The city was buzzing during that playoff run.
