No Gary Thorne and Bill Clement, that's a massive fail on ESPN's part. Swing and a miss.

Clement retired last year. He’s 70. Thorne is 73, hasn’t done hockey for over 10 years, and hasn’t done NHL for 15 (and most recently was fired by the Orioles).

Cassie was a good analyst and a knowledgeable hockey mind. She just didn’t posses the skills to do colour commentary. It’s a skill set that not many people have and simply knowing the game and having played it usually isn’t enough.
Hopefully the ESPN gig works out for her. I didn’t care for her colour commentary but I hold no I’ll will towards her as a person and I hope it all goes well for her.

I would rather listen to either of them than Caroline Cameron tells us what we don't know, and then goes into a talk about Connor McDavid or Austin Matthews when they aren't even playing.

I hope Messier is the analyst for every single canucks game and talks himself up as the greatest leader that team has ever had.

We've been over this lots before, but IMO there are very few 'really good' colour commentators out there. Ferraro (quick, confident, and assertive)...Boucher/Olczyk (though not sure I love the 3-man setup), and...I guess Craig Simpson.
Beyond that it's all different versions of mediocre-mediocre+. Hrudey is great with Ball, Debrusk is fine, Garrett or Pierre McGuire are obnoxious but occasionally entertaining...Cassie is right in the mix [of mediocrity]

Wouldn’t think there’s any reason to move. Who knows exactly what her duties are and how many games she will be involved with but it’s not a job that requires you to be in one place.
Her taxes hit a little more complicated though.

And the job comes with wildly different opinions because Ferraro is easily my least favourite all time. My description of him in fact would be the antonym of yours.

I didn't pay much attention to the original announcement. As I was looking to re-new my NHL.TV subscription, learned that ESPN+ has taken over streaming of out-of-market games. For $70 I will get all Flames games plus whatever is on ESPN+ instead of $140 for NHL.TV
Can't argue with the price. I hope the stream quality is up to the reputation of ESPN
I should point out, if it is not obvious, that this is US only. Canada is different

For those of us that already have espn+ bundled with Disney and Hulu, this is a big win.

ESPN/ABC and TNT announced their broadcast schedules for the 2021-22 season yesterday.
As far as I can tell, the Flames, Jets, and Senators are the only teams who will not appear in a single one of these 153 announced games. However, as mentioned above, ESPN+ subscribers should have access to every "out-of-market" Flames game. Depending on which team's home market you live in, you should get almost every Flames game.
