If we can get rid of Monahan and keep JG/Tkachuk it’ll be ####ing Christmas.
Monahan is a nice person, a good goal scorer and has had some injuries, but he is an absolute ##### on the puck and does not drive the play. The flames will never go anywhere with him as a 1st line C.
Can you frickin imagine JG - Eichel - Lindholm? Lindy would score like 40 ####ing goals.
I really don’t want to give up Tkachuk but if we need to pay Tkachuk + Andy + 1st to get it done you drive them to the airport. You nearly pay whatever they ask for. It would change our franchise from a mediocre POS.
Also, #### Tampa. Hope they lose to the baguettes. ####in #######s 🖕

Ruzicka (Maybe)
Still need a C or two.

News flash: This past season, Monahan was usually the 2nd-line C. By the end of the year, Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk was firmly established as the #1 line.
If you want to say the team is going nowhere with Monahan as a 2nd-line C, fine, but that's a much harder case to make.

Assuming (a) Eichel ever plays again, (b) Eichel can play as well as ever, and frankly, since he has never shown that kind of ability to elevate his team's game, (c) Eichel plays better than he ever has in his life.

Actually 2C has always been Monahan’s expected potential when we drafted him. He was never supposed to be a top end centre.

I’m definitely pro-going for Eichel. I think this is a great opportunity to upgrade the centre position.
But I also agree that Lindholm has given the Flames’ an upgrade at centre over Monahan and Backlund. For what it’s worth, Corsica Hockey says Elias Lindholm is the 19th best centre in the league. So, Lindholm is firmly a top-line centre, if not a high end one.

Kind of a strange take. Would love to hear a breakdown of why.
He's had some misses for sure (karlsson overpay, kane), but that's more than made up for by......
- Joe Thornton for some randoms
- unloading boadker and middle-manning Hoffman trade to end up with 3 additional picks including a 2nd
- trading up to snag Couture
- Getting Burns for Setoguchi and Coyle
Sharks have hung around as a contender for years.

Doug Wilson would be a fantastic GM if not for his bad cap management.
He can trade, draft and develop quite well.
But he gives way too many large contracts to players past their prime. San Jose is now in the worst contract situation in the league, despite the fact that to they still have quite a bit of talent. Many of their old overpaid guys will still be with the team in 4+ years.

Would you guys offer sheet Pettersson if given the chance?
We've already crippled the Canucks defensively, may as well try and snatch up a franchise player.
Would love a Pettersson/Lindholm center duo. Pettersson would also be a great addition to the PP with his underrated shot.
If you offer 10m x 5, it's a win win for us.

Offer sheeting Pettersson is tempting. The Canucks need to re-sign Petterson and Hughes, as well as an absolute minimum of one forward and two defencemen. So, that means they have a maximum of $13,573,121 to re-sign Petterson and Hughes. That's a little less than $6.8M/player. Wow, the Canucks are in a bad spot.
If Seattle wanted to, it could really give the rivalry with Vancouver a boost...

And if we're trying to acquire a 10m center (with all of the Eichel talk), I'd rather do it on Pettersson and screw over a rival who has mismanaged their cap space worse than any other team out there.

There is zero chance the Canucks would let him go. They would find a way.
I expect Petterson wouldn't mind a 5 years deal, which would make him a UFA in time to cash in really well. Might well prefer it. If the Canucks were going to give him $10M per season, they would want him signed for 8 years. 5 years prefers Petterson.
Whether he would sign an offer sheet is unknown, but Calgary certainly has some Swedes in tow.
Worse case scenario is it really puts the screws to Vancouver.
It's a well thought out plan I think.

I like Pettersson at 5 x 8.7 for a 1st, 2nd, 3rd a whole lot better than Eichel at 5 x 10 for more!

Sure but don't you think the Canucks will match that?
The 5x10 floated above seems much more likely to work for the Flames.

Vancouver would qualify that easily and deal with some buyouts/bad trades, also - Pettersson would have to sign it

You give a guy an offer sheet to mess up the other team's salary structure not because you actually expect to get the player.
Giving out an offer sheet that's so bad the other team won't match it is just bad cap management.

Or, you’re killing two birds with one stone:
A) Vancouver will have to sign the OS to retain Pettersson, causing them to lose a lot of much needed cap space and probably paying 33% more than what they wanted to Pettersson. Like someone said, if they wanted to sign Pettersson to 10m it would be for 8 years.
B) 5 years of a player we got only at the cost of 2 1sts + 2nd + 3rd. That’s cheaper than Eichel. We already have a 2nd from Florida and a 3rd from Toronto in 2022, we can grab the 1st by trading Monahan elsewhere. Roll with Pettersson/Lindholm as your 1/2 punch.
Sure, it’s overpayment for Pettersson, but it would be nice to have a 5 year window with him. We really need to go all in next year before Gaudreau and Tkachuk need new deals, and then a couple years after Lindholm and Hanifin. It would be the only 8 digit contract we have. It can probably be a little bit lower AAV than 10m but I think Vancouver matches anything under. Gotta make it hurt if they are matching it.

You rarely expect an offer sheet to succeed, unless it is really stupid. So, I would make an offer that works well for you, works well for the player and puts the matching team in a difficult spot. I think this offer would accomplish all 3. Most likely, it fails, but such is life - you dont lose anything and Vancouver has to figure out how to deal with Hughes.
