I expect they will recover the cost of signage by having to treat fewer fist shaking related injuries.

Has anyone looked at the Ward breakdowns?

This change seems almost pointless. I'm not sure you can even safely get to 50 on 95% of the roads going down to 40.

I drive 100km/h pretty consistently on Crowchild north of 24th avenue. No speeding tickets yet. <cross fingers> Just watch out for the occasional photo radar set up passed the last C-train station going north and one going south down the hill by Crowfoot overpass.

Threshold for photo radar in the city is 10km/hr not 10% at least that's what I was told when I requested photoradar by the playground by my house.

The radar guy called me up after, apologized that there was nowhere for him to hide, so everyone saw him coming. Max speed recorded was 37km/hr and no tickets were issued.

He told me it was their policy to not issue tickets for under 10over.

This was last summer

Something sounds very strange to me about an officer calling up a citizen to apologize for not handing out tickets outside of their house.

He didn't call to apologize, but he called after he was in the area. I had put in a request and he followed up afterwards.

He told me he kind of stuck out like a sorry thumb, and that was probably why he didn't ticket anyone.

He likely didn't "apologize" I guess that was a poor choice of words.

And no one's said it was "outside of their hours" I don't remember specifically but it was likely a couple of days later.

Looking at the communities around me, very few drivers are going more than 40 on the 40kph roads anyway.

There’s definitely some roads marked to stay at 50, for which they could easily be 40 as well. No one is doing 50 down falworth road NE, for example.

Overall, I don’t see any change in driving habits required.

I tried to count, I think there are 7 or 8 pins on this map that would be effected by the roads shown on the map Bunk posted.

I think I mentioned this a long time ago.

The speed limit may well be 50, but you'd have to be insane to be doing that speed on some of these roads. And thats in perfect weather, in the winter you're crawling along at 20 if you're lucky.

If anything we need Cesar Milan to go into our schools and teach children not to walk out from between parked cars.

"Dont walk out from between parked cars....or I slap you!"

Elbow Drive routinely has officers with LIDAR speed guns, which is not subject to the photo radar threshold.

“SSHHHTTTTTT!” hand claw to the side of the ribs.

My road looks like it’s staying 50...except for the first block of of...I’ll call it 2.5 blocks, is a playground zone. It could easily all go to 40...and maybe should as people seem to rip down our hill. Going 40 might mean they see the sign that says “no access to Bow Trail.” instead of realizing it half way down the hill.

Thanks for sharing. I see no issues with this as proposed. If people are driving 50 on the streets that are being changed to 40 in my community they probably shouldn't hold a driver's licence.

Same for me - in my community I don't see much of a change at all. All of the street that are moving down to 40 are essentially just "drive as fast as allows" already, which is somewhere around 30-40 given all the cars on the road and natural corners.

The problem in my community is that this is also the case, yet all the Facebook group nitwits keep screaming that people are "speeding". This reduction will only make the idiots louder without realizing that people aren't speeding because the roads are too tight to drive that fast in the first place.

This blanket change will have a positive effect on future roads, since they can be designed to the lower speed. That wouldn't be possible without this change.

If the city didn't spawl outwards so much, this probably would be a lot cheaper to change.

From how everything was presented, it seems unclear if this was ever an option, but IMO all of the red roads would be better off changing from 50 to 40. Most people will go ~45, and that would be fine.

Most of the orange roads could be 30 or 40...it doesn't really matter...people will drive somewhere in that range based on the road itself.

Slowing down the collectors would be detrimental to bus service.

Maybe I'm missing something but after reading the report:
- commute impact 90 seconds on average
- money saved due to costs associated with collisions
- people feel safer in their communities

Why are people so outraged about this proposal?
