Waiver wire April 9 - Byron, Turris, Bishop. Gusev unconditional for termination
Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Full waivers:
Kyle Turris (Edm), Paul Byron (Mtl), Nikita Gusev (NJ), Kenneth Appleby (NYI), Clark Bishop (Ott) placed on waivers.
And Sabres claim Caggiula.
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Nikita Gusev on unconditional waivers for purposes of termination. Has not played since March 20, as young players take over in NJ. Was on waivers 9 days ago, but hit of $4.5M made it untradeable, unfortunately. This creates possibility of signing elsewhere at a lower number.

Someone will need to explain the Gusev thing.
Don't you need cause to terminate a player's contract?

Not if it is mutual termination by both parties.
Looks like Gusev is fine with giving up the rest of the money he is owed on this contract to go sign with another team.

Turris will clear im guessing which opens up some more room for the greasers. They are making a move....dont see how it could be Hall but who knows.

If Turris clears he doesn't open up much room.
They can send him to the taxi squad and save the days between, or to the AHL and save something like 10% of his cap hit, but that's it.
It's just a wing and a prayor.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
But if the Oilers give up their 1st to get Hall, does the universe implode?

Aren't the oilers also in a weird spot cap wise where they don't actually realize any saving due to their LTIR position?

I'd bring Pauly back....I think he's universally liked in the locker.room .....and it's such a flame thing to do.

They're already using LTIR space, so I don't think demoting Turris will give them any more cap room to work with.

Yes it will just doesn’t bank
It’s a million in cap space and an extra roster spot. It’s just doesn’t accrue throughout the season. Plus the roster was full.

At his age, he will probably go back to Russia. He can be a star player there and likely make more money.

Yeah, of the few games I've seen, I'd agree that he seemed fine in them

Gusev is UFA after this season. He is doing this before the trade deadline because his intent is to sign with another team and still be eligible for the NHL playoffs.
He will most likely sign for close to league minimum to fit the cap space of a contender
