Connolly’s fifth team. He has not had a good season production wise so far, despite the panthers looking like one of the top teams

Is Stillman a good prospect?
I imagine Florida would need to pay to dump Connolly unless they are taking a bad contract from the Hawks

Stillman is a decent bottom pairing d-man, but not highly skilled. Tough and relatively mobile. Defends adequately.

Connolly has fallen off the map this year despite being pretty good last year. Part of it is opportunity. He's been getting 3rd and 4th line minutes this year, but part of it is also his effort and ability on the ice. He's just not bringing it the same way he did before. Complacency seems to be his biggest enemy in his career.

Would think it would be a defenceman with Ekblads injury. Maybe Connor Murphy plus.

Hard to guess who's going back. CHI doesn't really have the D depth to help fill Ekblads skates, especially on the right side, but I guess maybe Connor Murphy?

Florida opening up cap-space.

They were looking for a centre prior to Ekblad's injury, and were rumoured to be in on Hall.

I wonder if Florida is preparing to go all-in with some significant moves. They had $13,268,165 of available deadline cap-space BEFORE this deal, so they can pretty much do whatever the hell they want - AND Ekblad isn't even on LTIR (yet), so not only do they have crazy cap-space but they could then dip into LTIR if they went absolutely bonkers at the deadline.

Florida is in a rare spot where they could absolutely load up, and then have Ekblad return in the post-season...if they can add a 2nd line centre, a top pair defenceman and a scoring winger...

The Blackhawks and Panthers must have some kind of mutual right of first refusal when it comes trades.

Looks like FLAs forward lineup has been:

Duclair-Barkov-Verhaege
Huberdeau-Wennberg-Hornqvist

bottom 6 more variable:
Vatrano-Luostarinen-Tippett
Lammikko-Acciari-Marchment - 6th in EV TOI, but has missed 17 games

Wallmark played for the Panthers last year, so there is familiarity. They must like him and know what he can do, but he's primarily a depth center.

Carlsson is interesting to me. A decent player in the minors for a while is now just starting to break into the league at 23. Skilled, but not overly big for a defender. Perhaps a long-term piece for the team.

I'm a little bummed about losing Borgstrom, but I guess they just don't see him being a player long-term.

Tippett and Marchment have slowly worked their way into the lineup over the last few weeks. The mainstays have been Vatrano, Luostarinen, and Acciari. Connolly was being pushed out of the lineup and was purely a cap dump at this point. Getting some decent players in return is a plus.

I simply don't see that happening. He's pretty badly hurt and is out a minimum of 12 weeks. He's done for the year.
