Don't love it. Grz is an RFA, he should be commanding more than a rental.

Any chance Florida could be looking past this season with Leddy, 3rd in assists for dmen and 19th overall in the NHL looking at a nice rerate at this pace. What someone deems a rental could be a part of his plan going forward. Can't speak for him but to acquire a player out for 3 weeks makes me believe that's his reasoning.

If leddy wasn't on the IR for 3 more weeks i'd call this fair. Otherwise it makes no sense because he's an expiring deal so you need to use him this year

I’d like to hear FLorida GM post his rationale. If he plans to sign Leddy I think this is good

I plan on signing leddy. I have tons of youth so i am ok with letting Grzelcyk go in this. I think its a fair trade. Injury is something considered however i have a lot of pics. This deal will not break my team or future. Its an easy deal to get started with before i go after some bigger fish. Trying to feel this league out.

Value as I see it :

- Leddy, Nick (D) NHL
- Grzelcyk, Matthew (D) NHL

These two are about a wash. Leddy is having a career season, but Grzelcyk is being given premium minutes on a great team, now that he's back from injury.

That leaves :

- Lucic, Milan (LW) NHL
for
- Nash, Riley (C) NHL
- 2021 5th Round Draft Choice (fla)

Lucic is having a good year and should re-rate as a roster player, and he is on an easy cap hit. Nash has no real value so the return is a 5th. That's a little light, but if it wasn't a debate situation with a new GM, we would probably just shrug and say that Nashville won that one. Because it is a debate, there probably should be a slight bump, but this trade is not completely nuts.

Not the type of trade we should be stepping in to stop. Mostly chumps here. I vote yes.

I tend to agree. Get your foot wet with some lower value guys, learn what the value is in the league, and move on.

The big thing for the new GM to learn here is UFA age guys have a lot lower value than RFA guys, especially in this league where value is heavily skewed to youth.

This is a deal where the guys moving doesn't make a huge difference to a team's asset base.

I really wanted to wait to hear feedback on this. I will now make a formal response.

Nick Leddy has 19pts in 22 games this season with a -2

Lucic has 9 pts in 23 games and is -9 (this is a good season?)
Riley Nash has 5 pts in 23 games but is +3
Grzelcyk has 3 pts in 7 games with a plus 1 rating

All are pretty comparable in the sim ratings. Although when you compare Leddy to Grzelcyk in the sim he leads in 12/17 attribute categories. Leddy is having a far better season and based on the rerate logic presented for lucic, is on pace to have the best season of the group and hence the best re-rate.

Nash and Lucic are having comparable seasons and in the sim are pretty much the same. I don't expect either to be rated much different next season.

This is just a swap of assets and has given me alot of insight into how the league reacts. Based on this, some of the young talent I have should fetch quite a price. The 5th round pic is not really a factor, however this will give me 7 pics in this years draft.

So for a team with a surplus of youth and talent I can afford to swap out a few pieces to meet some current roster gaps to get through the rest of this season and maybe squeak out a playoff spot. Scratching my head a little on this one. Going to be a fun offseason.

My two cents.

I don’t think this trade is a significant one that will impact either roster long term.

The part I don’t get is why subtract a guy who is rated 68 from the current lineup for a guy who is on the IR for likely the rest of the season when the Panthers are battling for the playoffs.

Then the RFA vs UFA debate comes in which is an interesting one. I feel older players are under valued as a whole in this league. But that being said it’s the leagues GMs who set trade value.

If Leddy was healthy it would make more sense IMO.

Just my 2 cents.

Just to add a little something, since Gio went out for a month with his injury I've been asking around and getting offers for UFA dmen, multiple occasions I'm being asked for a 1st or 2nd round pick in return ,some of these players are near the end of their careers. Seems to be alot of downplay on the value of ufas but when it comes time to trade them from their own team it's a different evaluation. Either way it helps shed some light on asking prices and ufa value in the future for the new guy.

I mention this quite often when a new GM comes in but the point of the vote for new GMs is to help new GMs understand value and prevent them from getting screwed over.

This deal isn't going to make or break any team. This vote isn't to ensure the new GM wins their first few trades.

based on the strong and thoughtful rationale provided I would switch my vote to Yes.
Makes it 8-9 right now.

I voted yes as it isn’t terrible. But i don’t think Leddy should be re-signed as a UFA as long term that could be horrible.

After going through the post with the rationale, I’d also be switching to a yes now.
