Reading Rainbow!

https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/lev...0Alex%20Trebek

Quote:
It’s happening.

Following an uproarious social media push to have “Reading Rainbow” and “Star Trek” star LeVar Burton take the hosting podium on “Jeopardy!”, the actor has been announced as part of the final group of guest hosts who will round out the show’s 37th season in the wake of the death of beloved “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek last November.
Quote:
Also on tap to guest host are “Good Morning America” and “This Week With George Stephanopoulos” anchor George Stephanopoulos, his fellow “GMA” anchor Robin Roberts, CNBC “Squawk on the Street” co-anchor and former “Celebrity Jeopardy!” champ David Faber, and three-time National Sportscaster of the Year award winner sportscaster Joe Buck, who is known for covering NFL and MLB games on Fox. As part of each guest host’s appearance, a charity of their choice will receive a donation.

You've wanted Joe Buck since the beginning?!?! To each their own I guess, atleast it's better than Dr. Oz.

If I had my way it'd be Hank Azaria in character as Jim Brockmire, but I'm excited to see how LeVar Burton does.

I think he'd be a great choice.

I'm getting to that age where time goes by too quickly. It literally feels like a couple months since Alex passed, seeing that's it's coming up on 6 months just blows me away.

Gotta say Myam Bialik was the best host so far
She had a natural ease and comfort with the game and kept it moving with just the right amount of humour

Really? I though she was one of the worst so far. She would always half fake laugh after reading. No to blossom.

The problem with the guest hosts is they film all the episodes over 2 days, I think. So they don't get a chance to watch themselves and maybe correct some of the annoying habits, like laughing at every question. I think given time she could reign that in and be a really great host. But if not? That'd get annoying real quick.

You could see with some how they became more comfortable as their stint went on.

That's without the benefit of seeing themselves, seeing what works and doesn't work.

Frankly, I wouldn't be opposed to having guest hosts from now on. Maybe 4 weeks as opposed to 2?

I thought Bialik was solid, although the constant giggles and personal comments got a bit old after a while.

I still think Jennings is the one to beat, followed by Rodgers.

I'll take anyone with an advanced degree as host. When they slightly scold you for not knowing something you should feel legitimate shame because the host probably DID know it, not just because they were holding a card.

I thought this summed up nicely the issue with Ken:

Quote:
Jennings would be a fine choice for Jeopardy! host. Perhaps his only real weakness, however, is…the tweeting, as it always seems to be. Jennings has tweeted jokes that toe the line between bad taste and offensive in the past, something that he apologized for last year. The issue with Jennings on Twitter though isn’t the risk of future offensive tweets but rather his continued use of Twitter at all along with the rest of us plebs.

Jeopardy! seemingly exists outside of time itself. Save for improved graphics and Trebek’s graying hair, the show has remained largely the same since it premiered. The Platonic ideal of a Jeopardy! host would seem like he or she was spawned from the set itself, returning backstage to sit on their trivia throne and contemplate the mysteries of life between tapings.

Jennings does a superb job of honoring Jeopardy!’s legacy but he’s almost too accessible and engageable a public figure to have the necessary gravitas of Jeopardy! host.

Bialik is another shill for unproven supplements, like Dr. Oz.

A tv personality being engaging and accessible with his audience is a bad thing? If that's his biggest fault, consider yourself lucky.

We have to accept the fact that as great as we he was, the Trebek era is over. Trying to replicate the gravitas that was build up over decades is an impossible task, and whoever will step into the role will need time to build up their own aura.
