My guess he won't fire Atkins
For this reason, both have to go.

I think you underestimate the business world. Self preservation is real. Arguably Atkins could've been let go a couple seasons ago. His nine lives have left. If he doesn't dump Atkins the failure points to him. If he goes down with that ship it's admirable but I don't think his type happens in the real world. Give it a week or two and we'll see what transpires here. Edward Rogers arguably likes baseball more than anything, so to not boot Atkins after this much fail, to me is highly unlikely, no matter what insiders say will happen. He's as good as gone in the corporate world. Shapiro though, I think has good runway left.

I must admit that Ross Atkins is a perfect example of what a coward is.

This was a painful season that everyone saw coming except management. It was hard to get excited for the Jays this year and the way they came out of the gate definitely killed any hope for this season before we were a month in. I ended up putting all my baseball love into the Canadians this year.
How you can go into the off-season without plans for a GM and manager change is beyond me. Going into the last five seasons the Jays have had an incredibly obvious glaring hole that has been ignored. The worrying thing is that the issue was the same as the previous season 3 times. They only attempted to address an issue once, and did so successfully but ended up creating a new issue that they then ignored for two years to get us to this position.

Martinez fired. Fully deserving ten times over. Though I suppose he helped Vlad during his difficulties. The timing of just choosing him is interesting. Why not the others? Why not Atkins? So odd.

My opinion is that, as long as Shapiro is President, Atkins is going to be GM. Not a great spot because I think Shapiro is pretty good at aspects of his job while Atkins isn’t. Ownership would need to intervene to force Shapiro to fire him and I doubt the Rogers board is going to do that.

His footage does not fit with what the analytics say. So he's gotta go.

I still think paranoia is running rampant here. Simply put, Shapiro has no choice here. In the corporate world someone has to be accountable, and that really is Atkins here. If he doesn't give him the boot, he could be shelved himself. Very few corporate types stick to their guys at any their own peril. Atkins has not shown much the past few years. Certainly some moves were good, but overall he's had enough time to construct something good and has totally shat the bed. When you report to a board they'll question those things behind closed doors - so what can Shapiro's explanation be? He's simply got nothing material to back his man up here. Atkins is a goner.

Wins/Payroll/Average Attendance by season
2024 - 74/$234,516,547/33,101
2023 - 89/$223,560,545/37,307
2022 - 92/$192,937,580/32,763
2021 - 91/$172,521,891/10,119*
4,200 less fans in the park per game from 2023 to 2024 - while payroll goes up and wins go down. That is what I would be most worried about if I was Shapiro. I would imagine most at Rogers couldn't care less about wins/losses, but you start cutting into profits with drop in attendance, you now have their attention.
I agree - he is going to have to calm this trend, and relieving Atkins of his job, getting Vlad (and/or Bo) signed to a long term extension should be Shapiro's 2 priorities this off season.

That's right. Jays would have pulled Skubal by now if they were playing the Astros.

Nah, in Kevin Lowe fashion they kept Schneider to have as many people to take the blame, that extra level to peel off will play out. If Atkins punted him in May or June to try and get a bump and salvage the year, he would've exposed himself as the next one to go this offseason. And then Shapiro would be the next after Atkins.
Schneider is still there, so they still have a fall guy to protect them for another year at least...and Schneder is not Bruce Bochy or Francona or Torre, who as a manager who has control.
Big thing is media availability for Atkins and Shapiro is tomorrow. Unless they pull a late night or early morning firing of Schneider, they are probably going to keep him, nevermind Atkins. Though you never know, they could take the coward way out, talk up Schneider and still fire him in a month.

Did they? I seem to recall a “no comment” of some sort from Shapiro? I suspect tomorrow they’ll say everyone will be evaluated starting now.

This is what he said:
“Contextually, I’m a huge believer in stability and continuity and those are competitive advantages in pro sports. Reacting and change don’t necessarily mean improvement,” he said when asked about Atkins."
But he's going to say something like that anyway.
