They stole the tradition from the Oilers anyway. Imagine trying to mimic Edmonton...

“It’s just like the kind made by Elwood McKenzie, who played on the right hand side of the same peewee team that Tavares once played a callup game for. McDavid btw once did so many crossovers in the old cabbagetown rink that people were tarps off even before they got into it over which trophies Connor would win.”

Who needs opponents when you have teammates like JT Miller?

The moment he came out as a "blue lives matter" guy, I was done with him.

I can only assume the trade market was poor on Miller to the point where trading him would elicit ridicule for the return. I just can't believe there was any other reason other than the bad optics of trading him for a middling return that pushed them into signing him to a 7 year contract.

He's fine as a player. He's a talented player on a cold streak. They happen. From that stand point the deal is still fine.
The issue isn't the cold streak. The issue he is also a giant, unlikable prick.

Miller's a super weird player. He is like Jekyll and Hyde depending on whether he's playing center or wing. For whatever reason, as soon as he's in the middle he cannot figure out what he's supposed to be doing in his own end - it seems like a matter of simplifying his responsibilities when he's on the wall and he can do them more or less competently.
But there is a difference between being defensively competent and prone to gaffes - he's definitely prone to gaffes. You don't necessarily stand out if you leave a gap in the neutral zone and allow an easy zone entry or if you're late turning to keep your check from driving to the net, but if you lazily flip a backhand pass onto the stick of a guy on the other team leading directly to a 2 on 1, it's obvious. Gaffes are what stand out and how you get a bad reputation... Miller compounds these by giving the puck away and not even trying to stop the ensuing rush as he slowly sulks off to the bench for a change.
Then you add to that the whole "power play specialist" thing he has going on this year and it's a whole lot of no good. What they should probably do is put him back on Pettersson's LW taking faceoffs for him, since Pettersson is bad at those.

you don't sign a guy to a 7 year deal just because you couldn't trade him
except of course, it IS the Nucks we are talking about

Some of the media seem like they have a personal issue with him at this point, the delia thing was the only real inexcusable on ice incident hes had
He has struggled compared to last year, and like CHL said a posts up, hes prone to bad gaffes, a bit like Edler was, so when he messes up it looks bad
The difference in production between him and horvat this year is one has a 25% shooting percentage and the other is at 14%.

Seems like that's exactly what happened. They shopped him and the offers were supposedly weak so they signed him long term instead.

In a vacuum I don't even think the Delia thing was that bad. Delia was day dreaming. The issue is Miller is an undeniable prick so that plus all the other little ####ty things he does and takes no accountability for make it worse.

Two things happened.
Canucks didn't see any offers they liked and Miller realized he wasn't getting term at 8 or 9 million even if he had a similar season so there was only a chance he weakened his bargaining position (which he would have if he played like this).
