Yea, that was a weak episode. I love Paul Rudd, so I expected it to be much funnier. But I thought the majority of the skits just fell flat.
Weekend Update was great though, as was Leslie Jones' passionate (and funny) rant on the abortion bans.
Curious coincidence to have DJ Khaled, who had that controversial double standard on oral sex, as the music guest when women’s rights are front and center. You could argue that was a bit tone deaf.
Eddie Murphy to host this year's Christmas episode...
I believe it will be his first appearance on a regular episode of the show since he left 35 years ago (he did appear on the 40th Anniversary special in 2015).

Studio 8H has been rocked by a bait and twist: A major cast member is exiting Saturday Night Live, but it’s not Kate McKinnon. TVLine has learned that fellow cast member Leslie Jones will not be returning for show’s upcoming 45th season. Meanwhile, McKinnon — whose SNL pact expired in May — has extended her contract for (at least) another year, sources confirm.
An NBC rep declined to comment, but an insider tells TVLine that Jones chose to depart to focus on other opportunities (like her forthcoming Netflix standup special).

Not really too upset or surprised. Leslie Jones is pretty much a 1 trick pony on the show. Kate has a bunch of talent and is creative, but she might be that one talent that is staying past her best before label.
And how is Kristen Stewart going to be funny?

Slight correction. Actually, he hosted in Dec 1984 after leaving as a cast member in April 1984.
“I never skated,” Carvey said. “I never had a pair of ice skates on, we grew up poor, nobody skated. I had never played hockey, never held a hockey stick. So we're doing the sketch, we're filming it at a rink and I'm backstage and I'm trying to get my skates on and get them laced up properly.
“So Wayne, he gets down on one knee and he's just helping me properly do that and tie them off. So he's on his knees like I'm a four-year-old, but it's like, 'Who would do that?'
Is there any streaming library of the complete SNL? How cool would an application be if you could search by specific skits, cast members, hosts, etc? It's amazing to me how much historic SNL I have committed to memory while only seeing any episode once or twice.

Chloe Fineman, Shane Gillis and Bowen Yang will all appear in the new season of the long-running NBC sketch comedy series. Fineman was a New Face at the 2018 Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal and has been a regular performer at the Groundlings. Gillis was recently recognized as a New Face at the 2019 Just for Laughs Festival. Yang joined “SNL” as a staff writer last season and is co-host of the “Las Culturistas” podcast.

This is just an initial guest list right? - big gap between Kristen Stewart & Eddie Murphy

Reason: wrong quote
What a cast! Probably, one of the best ever, if not the best in SNL's history.
Quote:
The cast at the time included Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Nora Dunn, Jan Hooks, Kevin Nealon, Jon Lovitz, Dennis Miller and Victoria Jackson. The featured cast members were A. Whitney Brown, Al Franken, Mike Myers and Ben Stiller....

I've been binging through old SNL episodes that I downloaded a while ago.
Currently on Season 19 with:
Chris Farley, Phil Hartman, Tim Meadows, Mike Myers, Kevin Nealon, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Norm Macdonald, Jay Mohr, Sarah Silverman, and Dave Attell.
18 still had Dana Carvey, but Mike Myers was absent for the first half and no Norm is a big minus for me.

I think it is all on a youtube channel, but only available in America.
Shane Gillis fired days later after offensive material came to light.
Quote:
"Saturday Night Live" has fired one of its most recent hires, Shane Gillis, just days after videos of comedian making bigoted comments came to light.
"After talking with Shane Gillis, we have decided that he will not be joining 'SNL,'" an 'SNL' spokesperson on behalf of Lorne Michaels said in a statement to CNN. "We want 'SNL' to have a variety of voices and points of view within the show, and we hired Shane on the strength of his talent as comedian and his impressive audition for 'SNL.' We were not aware of his prior remarks that have surfaced over the past few days. The language he used is offensive, hurtful and unacceptable. We are sorry that we did not see these clips earlier, and that our vetting process was not up to our standard."
