With this win, Felix leapfrogs Shapo up to #22 in the world.

It's over.
FAA wins 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 over the ballbasher from the Republic of Georgia!
One more trunk to slam against the extraordinarily volatile and erratic but dangerous when on Benoit Paire.

I don't think it's going to be too long before Felix supplants Milos as the top ranked Canadian and showing no signs of relinquishing that ranking.

Felix now passes Shapo for Canadian #2, and given Milos injury history it won't be long until he is #1 in Canada. I'm not crazy to think this kid could crack top 10 by end of the year right??!?! He is currently 11th in the YTD rankings

I'm a bit worried about this groin injury as those are injuries that can linger, but I don't think it is at all a stretch to say he should be safely inside the top 15 by the time the 2020 Australian open comes around.

Yeah, hopefully it's nothing serious, he seemed to be moving okay closing out today's match but I'm sure the adrenaline was kicking in big time.

Will be tough to climb that high given how many challenger points he has coming off the books over the next few months. Certainly not impossible though if he can stay healthy through the US Open season.

It would be something if he qualified for London.

To put in perspective just how good his ranking is, he is currently ranked 22 (at age 18), the next highest mens player under 20 years old is ranked......85

Incredible.
The way he is doing it on top of he strong return game is what is truly mind blowing. Felix is in some very elite company already with room to grow.

The best part about that chart is that he would be higher if he were more effective against the second serve, which is just a matter of time. He's 8th in first serve return points won.

Yeah that's really all that's keeping him out of the top 5 returner category at this point. It's a bit of an outlier for a young player that I would suspect is a byproduct of playing so many matches on clay this year.
Once he's well into the US hard court swing, I suspect those 2nd serve return figures will look quite a bit better.

Paire takes the opening set 6-4 - Death by a thousand drop shots from Paire in that set.

Felix just looks out of sorts today, I wonder if the groin is bothering him, just not moving as well as I am accustomed to seeing.

You gotta give credit to Paire, he played some great tennis today as he defeats Felix 6-4 6-3 to take the Lyon title. A great week for Felix nonetheless.
