McKenzie: Hearing the Flames are very intent on moving one of Hamonic or Brodie
Around the 45 minute mark of his latest Bobcast talking about TSN's tradebait board.
https://www.tsn.ca/radio/toronto-105...e-18-1.1314684
Summary:
he is hearing a lot that Calgary is very intent on moving one of Hamonic or Brodie
The Flames have a lot of good young d-men they feel can take over for one of those guys.
Trying to free up dollars for Tkachuk.
Frolik is also mentioned earlier in the podcast as most likely being gone.

I'm a huge Brodie fan, but from a business perspective he's the only one that makes sense. We don't have another player like Hamonic. Unless he's unhappy, I hope Hamonic sticks around for a good while.

I’d be a little surprised if Hamonic was traded and they kept Brodie. I feel like the younger guys might be better replacements for Brodie’s game. Hamonic has some snarl in his game and I believe Calgary needs more of that, not less.

I'm a little surprised to hear Hamonic's name included but this absolutely makes sense. One of them needs to be gone this summer (and IMO it's definitely gonna be Brodie).
If Hamonic is traded, I don't think I'll be too happy.

I hope it's Brodie who ends up getting moved. Hamonic is a warrior, and I thought he was one of our better D men last year.

This makes sense.
I assume they'd rather move Brodie, but teams might be more interested in acquiring Hamonic, so it's a question of what the difference in return is for each of them.
I hope Frolik's performance at the World Championships has boosted his value a bit too.

Of course the best option is to keep both but moving Hamonic makes so much more sense than Brodie if you just want to open up a spot and clear a bit of cap.
The run Brodie out of town movement has moved so far beyond reality trying to justify the opposite, but the reality is one player is actually good at hockey and the other guy is just another guy. Hamonic’s grit is appreciated but it doesn’t make up for his lack of ability in other areas.
Hamonic plays the game the right way, but Brodie is more talented and produces better results, regardless of the situation they’re both put in.

If anyone thinks they will move Hamonic unless the return is unreal, are crazy. I know he is a UFA but that guy was so good last year and it does not show on the stat line. Brodie is as good as gone imo

Especially considering that Andersson looked fine with Gio. It gives us some flexibility.
Harmonic on the other hand plays a grittier style that we need more than another defenseman that can look good with Giordano.

I'd hate to see Hamonic go. There's really nobody else like him in the depth chart (although Andersson has a bit of snarl).
Just a good, no-nonsense honest player.

Leafs were rumoured to offer their 2018 1st and James Van Riemsdyk for Hamonic back in June of 2017. Travis has done nothing to weaken his value.
Brodie has his struggles but is still easily a top four guy. You love TJ's ability to join the rush but hate those oopsie moments that drive you crazy. Hamonic is a rare breed in the NHL, good hard nosed shut down defender who surprises with his ability to carry the puck at times, although offence is limited.
One of them needs to be moved, both should have good value. Good opportunity for Treliving to use the depth with have at one position to improve a weakness elsewhere.

RHD (the real right handed shot ones, not the RLHDs like Brodie) are at a premium. Compound that along with Hammers favorable contract, it only makes sense that Hammer brings the greater return.
But, like Bennett if you move Hammer, you make the team squishier. That's not a good thing.
Brodie will still get you a decent trade return, just not the same as what we paid for Hammer or Hamilton.
Either way, Hamonic has been on the tsn trade bait list for almost a month now and this is the first official mainstream media mention of Brodie being available

I would, yeah. He makes Gio a Norris candidate. That’s not a fluke.
The coaches talk about how often they use video to demonstrate the right way to do things, and Brodie is the guy who keeps showing up as the good example.
Hamonic is fine. Blocks a lot of shots like Kris Russell. Fights but generally doesn’t win. Had a lot of trouble gaining possession and moving the puck in the playoffs.
I don’t give a crap about the CP bellyaching about Brodie movement. He is a way better player than Hamonic.

Gio was still a Norris candidate when Brodie was dropped from that pairing 3-4 times last year and was at that level when Hamilton was paired with him (8th in voting last year).
It's not a fluke, Giordano is that good.

Come on, now, don’t be silly. Gio wasn’t winning the Norris putting up 39 points with Hamilton. With Brodie, 74 points and +39.
Next.
