I generally like Mcindoe, but clearly this is just an all Leafs all the time piece. If you are the Leafs or acquired ex Leafs, you won.

Johnny feeding pure goal scorers Monahan and Neal. My god, the assists. The assists!

Anyway, lucky for CGY!
Rumors last night were that Vegas offered 5x5M, so the Flames outbid them. Also, if Vegas is still working on getting Karlsson from Ottawa, then they may need the capspace in future years.

Brouwer $4.5M
Frolik $4.3M
Stone $3M
and Smith's $4.25 is done after this year as well (wouldn't be surprised to see him re-sign at a lower number).

Plus the cap tends to go up by about $3M a year.

Without even trying, there is something close to $15M that could become available for next year's re-signings.

(it is possible that one of the above items might get taken care of this year, but the point remains)

I think the first 3 you mention have two more years left so they will have to be moved latest next offseason to make room.

Hmm, if I were GMGM, I don't know I'd risk the chemistry impact for a mere $750k... of course, I know very little of what's going on... just seems odd.

Of course, I'm not complaining... I hope JG gets to 100pts feeding 2 35g scorers 😁

Brouwer, Stone and Frolik all have 2 years left.

This got me to thinking - when was the last time we, on paper, have had THIS legitimate of a first line? A legitimate #1 LW, #1C, #1RW in each of their own rights.

Not players miscast in a role that could complement first line players, but 3 top line talents.

Hudler was good, but not in anyone's mind a top line winger that could carry a line on his own. And Monahan and Gaudreau were a bit short on experience to be considered bonafide first liners.

No question marks on the top line now, what a bizarre feeling that will be.

Was watching the Brazil game (perfect result) when I get a phone call did u hear the news. Flames signed Neal long term. Whaaaat!
Funny thing is late last night Commadore tweeted that he had the "Real Deal James Neal" in his backyard on a 5 year deal and your welcome Calgary lol.
But sitting around the fire we thought nothing about it other that it was a funny tweet.

Incredible move by Treliving. Neal is exactly what the Flames needed. Neal a pure scorer, large body, plays with an edge doesn't take any crap will be a great veteran presence for M&G.
This should move the needle in the right direction for Calgary.

This is a major win for Flames fans I don't even care that it is a 5 year deal. Worth every penny.
Credit where credit is due Big play by Treliving.

I had these same thoughts even during playoffs. His ice time was visibly trimmed, especially closer to the end. Maybe it was an undisclosed injury though. Neal is a very talented player. He seems to want to be recognised as the best player. This might explain his frequent moves (from Dallas to Pittsburgh to Nashville to Vegas to Calgary). Hopefully, now he can play that role and settle down.

He probably felt he had to do all this after the talking to you gave him at the STH event. Kudos to you. /s

I am mostly interested if there's a NMC or buyout protection.
I'm not one to jump into the conspiracy stuff but everything about that screams not really a fan of this team

-focus on points not goals
-poke at being dirty
-suggestion fans here won't be able to talk down their noses about said dirtiniess
-then straight to contracts looking for another negative
-never mention the upside

Happy to have Neal on the team. A little concerned about the term and the GT/PGT when Neal scores....

I'm surprised Sportsnet even realized other NHL teams made deals. After 10:42 yesterday when the JT news broke, it was Maple Leafs every second. I am not sure they can judge anything because they are all still slobbering over Tavares. At least Jay and Dan were offering the new drug Tavarasol to help non-Leaf fans deal with the 24/7 coverage.

some of you guys worry too much

Flames have massively upgraded their forwards top to bottom IMO

Wasn't excited about the season at all until today. Neal is the perfect fit for the top line

25 goals...I dont care what anyone says goals are worth more than assists, especially to the Flames that need more trigger men.
