Very true. I guess if you can find something in your price range that fits what you want to get out of your tv then Costco is the way to go.

Futureshop may beat Costco's price if they have a similar product. I bought my Samsung there.

Why would anyone choose to purchase something at Future Shop instead of Costco just to save a few bucks?

If you pay on your AmEx at Costco you get an extra year (or 2, don't recall) of warranty for free. For me it's a no-brainer to buy at Costco over Futureshop.

Plasma has blacker blacks and is better for cinema in a low lighted room. I also like it best for gaming as it has a much quicker response time then LCD. Plasma is a bunch of noble gasses. LCD is liquid. 600mhz is an arbitrary number companies slapped on so people realize plasma is faster then LCD and suffers no motion blur. In actuality response time on plasma is like 0.03ms and LCD is like 2-3ms it actually does make a difference.
This is why LCD looks like a soap opera they use tech that fills in missing frames so that the action on screen doesn't blur when motion occurs. Films are actually 24fps and not supposed to look like this thats why plasma has a truer reproduction of film as well.
If your going plasma get a Panasonic. I had a Samsung and it also made a weird buzzing sound so I took it back. Ive never had burn in on my Panasonic and I play Xbox PS3 and WII everyday almost and pause it and go do other stuff. just remember to do a burn in program first.

I have the exact Samusung you're talking about and it's an excellent tv. For 800 bucks you're getting an unreal price. I bought it on boxing day last year and it was the 1000 bucks. 1000 bucks was a steal on boxing day so 800 is really good.
In my opinion you should just wait until boxing day since I'm sure you're not going to be using it before then anyway.

I'm thinking I'll buy the TV at Costco for now, its $150 off, but I won't be opening it till after christmas as my basement won't be done till then. I'll keep my eye on any boxing day specials and if there are some sweet deals I buy that TV and then return the Samsung to Costco.

Hey guys, any thoughts on this TV deal LG 50" 1080p 600hz Plasma for $700:
http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...NLC-ALL-101206
Bestbuy is selling the 720p version for $100 less as well.
Looking at getting a new TV eventually, and this deal looks pretty damn good, though I have limited experience and understanding on the LCD/Plasma debate.

If you're not keen on bells and whistles and are content with a good value-priced plasma, then yes, this TV is a great buy.
CONS (to keep in mind):
- no P.I.P.
- marginal built-in speakers
- only 2 HDMI inputs (and no DVI inputs)
- no USB/Firewire/ethernet/WiFi/headphone/media card connectivity
- 1 year manufacturer warranty (this is somewhat typical, but still a con)
If these limitations don't bother you (and I'm not suggesting they should), then absolutely pull the trigger now. Otherwise, even better deals MIGHT come around Boxing Day.

Actually I just bought (on behalf of my wife and her siblings) the 720 version at BestBuy for $599. It is for my in-laws, and it is perfect for them for a number of reasons:
- They would rather have a 50" plasma at 720 than a 46" LCD at 1080 (which was my other option, but for $100 more).
- They are 60+, so bigger is definitely better and extra resolution is probably wasted on them.
- They watch TV 99% of the time, and because HD cable comes in at 720, they're not missing anything.
- Their room is somewhat dark, although it does have a window that concerns me a bit for glare, but they'll just have to put it along the other wall if it is a problem.
- Our budget was $700 split across a few people, and the 599, plus GST, plus the $45 enviro levy put us at just under $680.
I personally prefer LCD TVs, but that's just a personal preference. If I was buying it for myself, I may have splurged a little more and got a few more features on a comparably-sized LCD. But, given my constraints and the intended recipients, this TV is perfect. I'll let you know after Christmas how my decision looks after setting it up and turning it on.

My LCD in my bedroom only has the built in speakers. No point in a 5.1 system there.
However if you are saving big money on the tv, I recommend at least getting a sound bar. I have the Sony HCT 100 one in my living room. Love it, it was cheap as dirt, and it sounds awesome.

I did a bunch of research on these and ended up going with a Panasonic Plasma...I absolutely love it. Have had no issues with the TV and love the picture. I couldn't recommend them enough.
Oh, and I do game a decent amount and have had no issues with burn-in, so that might help put you at ease.

check out Slickdeals.net
Go to the forums and then Hot Deals, scroll to the bottom and click on the Video icon. They will show killer deals on TVs and have some great insight on them.
The hotel I work for has 27" HDTV's in the room but we had a bad thunderstorm a couple of weeks ago and it killed two of our tv's. So I got on there and found that Best Buy was having a deal on 26" Dynex tv's for 199. The place that was going to fix our tv was going to charge $240.
I just figured I would share that with everyone.
