At halftime, it would have been fair for Canada to be down 3-1. They rounded into form in the 2nd half, but the first half they gave up some great chances.

If they play like that against good teams, it wont matter what happens in the 2nd half.

The makeshift backline by Herdman is a bad idea going forward.

Herdman getting into it with the Mexican coach. He’s fired up!

We’ve gifted the Mexicans 3 goals. Horrible defending

The plus from this game is Canada has looked much, much better once they shifted to a 4-3-3. I have no clue why that wasn’t the way they started the match, they definitely didn’t put their best players on the pitch to start

Canada desperately needs some quality defenders to emerge for our program.

As frustrating as that match was last night I feel better about it this morning. By switching around the formation and personnel hopefully Herdman means has some more clarity on his stronger formation and lineup. We’ve got some hopefully fresher legs against Cuba in the match they need to win. And anything better than shambolic defending could have resulted in a point against Mexico (to be fair Mexico missed some grade A chances as well).

Hopefully Arfield and David start the rest of the way. Larin should not be a starter on this squad.

Canada desperately needs some CBs.

I think Canada wanted to rest some players, give other players a look and test formation. In the end, this game was not important as Canada will get 2nd and advance.

Maybe Herdman was even hiding some things ahead of a potential semifinal against Mexico.

That's it exactly. The real must win games in this group are against Martinique and Cuba. Try some unorthodox stuff against Mexico and play the real first XI in the other games.

As long as there is a win vs. Cuba, I'm not even disappointed. You could tell that there was a fair bit of tinkering going on, and there were some positives in the attack and midfield. Defense... well... at least they know where to focus during training. Would have loved to have tied it up, but Cuba has always been the must win game. And if we meet Mexico again, that's the time to squeak one out.

Mexico's ball movement and positioning was top notch. Still Canada found a way to make good when they had the ball by penetrating quickly. I don't think the result is discouraging all things considered.

Actually having some quality chances against Mexico felt leaps and bounds beyond where the team was at just a few years ago. Things are trending up!

Cuba were very, very poor, especially without the ball. But nonetheless, that was champagne football from Canada. Ruthless going forward. Next match vs Costa Rica or Haiti will be an excellent test for this group.
