How is naming your #1 defenseman who's signed long-term in any way indicative of a "mess?" Paul Byron and Brendan Gallagher are both also committed to Montreal in the long run.

Strange comment.

So Montreal is in good shape then? They keep trading for small wingers and trying them as centres. Bergevin is terrible.

Yes, that's all well and good, but that's not the point of the thread.

Based on your post history it seems like you're something of a Leafs fan yourself so I'd just like to point out that the team that is the subject of the thread you're posting in can actually name a captain.

It's a weird comment because nothing about their choice of captains implies they're a mess, so you're ####ting on them just for the hell of it. Doesn't matter if they actually are a mess, it's not really relevant to this thread.

No surprise there

Don't know why they didn't announce it when Weber came back, but it fits with everything we've seen in Montreal lately to announce your captain on IR

Guess it makes sense.

As much as I miss Byron, he sure seems to have found a great fit in Montreal.

Is Weber still out long-term with an injury?
I thought he was, but I admittedly don't really pay much attention to the Habs.

Weber is still out for months.

He was an easy choice for captain. I think his teammates look up to him, seems like a solid guy.

Gallagher and Byron work harder than anyone so I like those choices as well (Gallagher has had a letter for a few seasons).

Their D is a trainwreck, they traded their best goal scorers away so it's going to be a long season. Their only hope is that Price becomes Price again and the new Finnish kid lights it up.

He was an easy choice, too bad he won't be on the ice for half the season.

Who cares about a captain? Leafs want to wait. Sounds fine with me.

Always like Byron. Good on him to get the alternate captaincy.

Hey there SmokeyTuna, why are you talking about the Leafs in a Habs thread?

Love the quote from Weber on TSN

"I'm going to do my best to bring this team back to success."

"....in 6 months."

(he never said that last part)
