While recognizing Thiem is nowhere near the player today that won the US Open a few years ago, it still has to be good for Felix's mental outlook to find a way to win that match over a former GS champion. At a minimum, it gives him a recent memory of battling through some adversity.

Three years ago, a little known guy named Aslan Karatsev made a surprising run to the Aussie Open semi-finals. He hasn't really been able to back up that play since that time (very dangerous player though) and now this news...

Hearing a few interviews lately on FAAs 2023 season and I am convinced that he was more marred by injury than was let on. He even hinted that his team did not handle it well, which led to him coming back far too early and never really playing at 100% until close to the end of the year.

Assuming he is now healthy, I expect him to be back to the more consistent, top 10 calibre player that we came to know.

Mirra Andreeva has bageled Ons Jabeur and could deliver a breadstick in set 2.

Breadstick avoided, but 6-0 6-2 is quite the scoreline.

Speaking of great things to see, how exciting is it to see Raducanu with a big win earlier.

Great to see Emma back healthy and playing well. That smooth swing that produces effortless power is beautiful to watch.

She might blow a 5-2 lead.

Yeah, terrible service game serving for the opening set at 5-3. Now it's 5-5

Parks serving for the opening set at 6-5. She started getting more balls in play and Leylah just looks a little rattled all of a sudden.

Edit: From 5-2 down, Parks wins five straight games to take the opening set 7-5

Not sure why Leylah is not stepping back more on the Parks serve to give herself a little more time to put a return in play.

It certainly doesn't help when mis hits by Parks find the line for winners.

Leylah needs to break the Parks serve to stay in this match. Not impossible, nerves are bound to creep in for the American.

- Saved two match points, but couldn't save a third. Really disappointing effort from Leylah today, wasn't moving well, but really didn't compete well today which is very strange.
