Default Let's talk Jerky

Sure we all know Longview jerky (I'm not really that big of a fan) but what are other great jerky brands around Calgary? What's your favorite jerky? I am a huge fan of venison jerky but it seems pretty hard to come by. Any one know where to get some elk or moose jerky?

My absolute favorite jerky is from Oklahoma. It's called No Man's Land. I always try to bring a bag or two back with me when I visit.

I really like this stuff

https://shop.kravejerky.com/shop-kra...tle-beef-jerky

It's softer than most jerky, which is nice, but it's too expensive.

I'm liking the Oberto from Costco. Seems to be the best value these days.

There is no good convenience store jerky. The only good jerky is bought from a butcher shop or made yourself.

I agree that Longview jerky is a tad overrated (and overpriced) so curious what other good places there are

Longview has gone downhill big time in the last 10 years ... Way overcooked and underflavored.

I like something dry that I can chew on for a few minutes. Any recommendations?

This is the best beef jerky I've ever had:

http://albertajerky.com/our-famous-jerky.html

I usually make my own, but its never as good as theirs. I've been on a quest to make it as good, but that's not likely to result.

Backcountry butchers in Cowley. If you haven't tried it you need to. Amazing jerky and pepperoni sticks. They also sell roasts, back bacon and many other delicious meaty goodness.

Buy a roast, slice it up and dehydrate it. It takes a bit of work and time, but its so worth it. Makes the house smell great

IMO, biltong is much better than jerky.

The chilli bites are awesome!

I not long for Longview beef Jerky. But I've never had anything better than Longview Bison jerky. Beats anything I've ever had jerky wise. Meatco up in Wainwright has deadly beef jerky. You're lucky to get some any time of day as they sell it faster than they can make it.

i've done a number of recipes i've found online, but my favourite by far are these packaged ones i found at princess auto (of all places!!)

https://www.princessauto.com/en/deta...te/A-p8389983e

  • slice up your meat (cut meat into 'steaks' and throw them into a freezer on a cookie tray for around 30 minutes, then slice at a 1/4" with a meat slicer)
  • season as per directions and leave in the fridge over night
  • smoke for a couple ours
  • embrace the jerky coma you are about to experience!

While not a Jerky per se, Droëwors is amazing.

Obviously some of the stuff that has been mentioned is hard to beat as it is fresh and gourmet. This thread has made me hungry. Homemade jerky... mmm...

But, as far as regular packaged brands go, I enjoy Big Chief.

Just picked up a 1 lbs bag from Jerkey Outlet in the States. $30 USD including taxes. Tastes great.
