I wanted Monahan at the time and I remember cheering when Carolina drafted Lindholm. Glad we have both but I was definitely pro-Monahan.

I thought someone dug up an old draft poll on these 2 last year, I can't find it.

I voted for Kodos.

Can't believe we have both.

Though they were very lucky to be the precise required quantity of ass. A couple of wins more and they would have watched some other team win that lottery. Lindholm might well have got them that.

They weren’t alone either. I can post scouting reports from back then that emphasized Monahan’s playmaking and not his shooting.

I think I wanted lindholm more. And was big into moving down for nichuskin.

Thought lindholm would be the next forsberg. He’s not really that player but damn I like his play. Sick release on his shot

I had them in tiers for that draft

Tier 1: Mackinnon, Jones, Drouin
Tier 2: Barkov, Monahan, Lindholm
Only other guy I would've been fine with taking was Horvat

I wanted Monahan, because my wife and I had recently moved there and had a chance to catch a 67's game. Lindholm was my second choice, but I wasn't too keen on Barkov at all.

That was the most I had ever researched the draft to date. I knew we were getting a great player but I flip-flopped on who I wanted so much. I remember hoping we would trade to 4 and take whoever was left from them. I also remember wanting the flames to take Nichushkin, and Ristoleinen at different times. But I was still pumped when we got Monahan, would have been happy any way it went. Except maybe had we gotten Nichushkin and his career turned out the same way.

Wanted Barkov but didn't think he'd drop to 6. I was flip flopping big time between Sean and Elias. I think tie went to the Canadian so at the end of the day, I was happy we got Monahan.

I wanted Barkov, but that was unlikely. Ended up on team Monahan, hoping Carolina leave him.

Ultimately we have been a team that has been 'patchwork' at centre since the dawn of time.

We have searched high and low and far and wide for a #1 Centre sine time immemorial.

Thats Monahan.

Lindholm can play Centre but once again you're talking about utility. Is it his natural position? His best position? Debatable.

Monahan is a #1 Centre. He was the right call.

I absolutely love that not only fans, but also people within the organization said "at least Edmonton gets none of them lol"

I had the top 4 separated from them. I actually really thought we were going to get Drouin for some reason.

Out of Monahan and Lindholm, I had Lindholm ranked higher. I saw Nick Backstrom 2.0. Glad to have both.

Was definitely Pro Monahan. Pretty cool to have them playing on the same line this many years Later.

Ironically, the reason I was disappointed with the Monahan selection was that it just seemed so boring.

Glad we took Monahan.

Think about it like this.

Let's assume Monahan puts up the exact same numbers and same production in Carolina or falls a little further. There is no way Monahan becomes available for a trade. He's a very solid player and we got very lucky we were able to draft him.

Also really stoked we got Lindholm eventually but you need a #1 C to build a forward core around. Monahan was that guy. And no way would he have been involved in a trade or trade rumours this early in his career (barring other circumstances).
