Default Flames 3 Avalanche 2 (OT)

Flames 3 Avalanche 2 (OT)

- time out and line shuffle lead team back
- Rittich stands tall after team doesn't show up
- Bennett a standout again
- Lindholm continues to fill the net

The Flames PP is missing a heavy shot from the point.

It would be deadly if they had that.

Astounding non-call on the Landeskog hit. That was a very dangerous play, and a textbook example of the 'hit from behind into the boards' that they are trying to eliminate.

Great write-up as always, Bingo!

I think they have some heavy shots. Stone for example. But even more important is someone that can handle the puck and see the ice, which is not what Stone does. He does not like the puck on his stick.

The Chris Pronger PP is hard to find IMO. Flames are trying to build a PP with lots of movement and passing that relies on goals from close in. That makes sense given where their talent is. It would be different with an Ovechkin launching one timers or Pronger blasting bombs.

Lindholm had shown a bit of an inclination to shoot from medium range but doesn’t seem like it’s happened lately.

I think with the power play they are still working things out, because it seems to me to have some different looks in every game. After the Nashville game I thought the Flames were depending too heavily on Gaudreau to carry the puck in. Last night there were other puck carriers on his unit. The entries and puck movement were very good, but I really didn’t like how Gaudreau was setting up as the shooter. That was new, and I hope it doesn’t last.

There were other small pieces of the pp where you could see them tinkering, I think. Lindholm in back-to-back plays tried to feed Tkachuk for a power-move goal on the corner, which made no sense to me. But even despite the lack of results I like what I am seeing for the most part, and the pp should have been 1/4 by the end of the night: that save by Varlamov on Gaudreau’s feed to Tkachuk in the second was all world.

When Gaudreau is bringing the puck towards the net from the left side he should head around the net and out the other side every so often.

Have it as a set play and have the 1-3-1 adjust accordingly. As a left shot he would be dangerous coming out of the right corner on a fluid motion and with other players moving it would cause chaos in the box.

And teams scout everything so do that a few times and they'd start cheating for it creating more room so he could cut in and shoot without going around.

I really like our PP1, but i would like to see a switch up for the second unit.

Putting:

Bennett(sidewall like Gaudreau)
Backlund(high slot)
Neal(off side circle)
Ryan(off side circle)
Hannifin(top of umbrella)

Would like to see this happen for the second unit. Loved the effort last night and think Bennett-Backs-Neal should stay together they were really solid.
