Honestly, I wasn't sure I was going to make videos this summer after yet another frustrating season and general apathy.
But losing Gio made me want to finish off his series of videos, and I planned on making Mangiapane videos for his season and his Team Canada MVP performance, and I'll still end up making videos for the usual suspects as well... so here we are.
Gio got a lot of heat this past season, but honestly his stickwork, his shotblocking, his work ethic, and his defensive awareness were all still elite IMO. Tough to see him go via the expansion draft, but I'm also glad the team didn't pay a premium to protect him after Tanev had such a strong year and forced the team's hand in terms of protection slots. I also wouldn't be shocked to see him return next season via some 1 year contracts if he's interested in coming back.
Thanks for this. I won't soon forget Gio. He was worth remembering.
If people had better memories they'd remember how much he went through and what he still gave back to this community and in my mind it didn't even mean he had To be a captain to do this.
Thanks AC. Your work is phenomenal.
I will miss him more than most of the Flames that have come and gone over the years.
If there was ever a poster child for 'sneaky strength' for the NHL, Giordano was it. Wasn't big, but damn that is some double-man strength that he had. He has Gary Roberts man strength.
Thanks AC, love your videos, and appreciate how much work must go in to putting them together.
I think a lot of us have been frustrated and felt done with this team a number of times in the past couple off-seasons, but honestly your vids are a big part of helping me get pumped up for what's (hopefully) to come. Obviously it's only the highs and none of the lows, but with the overwhelming negativity that often permeates the end of the season, it's nice to be reminded how good the high points can feel.
I've probably watched all of your vids at one time or another, and will often revisit them while making a meal or exercising. I think two of my favourites both come from 08/09 seeing the sheer number of highlight reel goals Bertuzzi scored in just one season with the Flames, and the insane chemistry between Iggy and Cammalleri, with Iggy being able to force teams to respect his shot only to rocket a perfect pass to Cammalleri for a one-timer.
Keep up the great work, much appreciated!

Thanks for doing these AC. I spend a lot of summer and down time watching them. Always great to go back to previous seasons too. Appreciate the effort.
