I feel confident that Brad can outbid Vegas if he wants. Vegas has spent its best prospects already. Calgary has the edge. When it comes to prospects, Anaheim outduels Calgary and Vegas, of course. But if its Calgary versus Vegas in a bidding war, Calgary can win that fight for sure.

Still underrated it appears. His defensive use was Conn Smythe worthy. He barely gets PP time, and is stuck with grinding linemates. Danault has massive upside if he can develop offensively.

He is already 28-years-old. Danault is developed.

I don't know how Vegas continues to afford the roster they have. They just seem to find a way.

How bad did Danault want to get out of Montreal?

They will blame their missing the playoffs on Weber taking a year off and Price declining but they are missing their best forward by far.

Good on LA. He just made all the young guys there 10-20% better by taking them away from ever having to have on the ice with the other teams #1C

This is classic "grass is greener on the other side".

Same player as Backlund, same contract.

Well, no. Danault is a different kind d of player than Backlund—probably better defensively, but clearly more offensively challenged.

Players with the last names starting with C and D are gone, time for the Es!

I guess the Kings are comfortable giving this much money to a third line centre long term. I guess we are ok with Backlund after all (especially considering that he is the third line centre in name only, and plays way more than 3rd line minutes).

The players are quite similar "offensively" if you look at the last couple of seasons.

Backlund 124GP 25G 52A 77PTS
Danault 124GP 18G 53A 71PTS

I'd argue Danault is a much better shutdown C. What he did in the playoffs would back that up.

I'd argue that Danault had better offensive players to drive a line than Backlund if we're just looking at points.

I will keep an eye out for Danault helping 'out of the NHL soon' scrubs like Bouma and Colborne close to 20 goal territory. Plus a revolving door of players and prospects, and seemingly having one consistent season after another.

Backlund is the most underappreciated Flame.

Tkachuk? Who has he played the most with since being drafted by the Flames.

I'll preface the following by saying I don't disagree with you.

My previous post had more to do with the notion that Danault is a one dimensional (defensive) player, albeit a damn fine one at that.

Not whether he had better line mates than Backlund. It wasn't a knock on Backlund, who plays a very solid 200' game, at all.

Danault isn't as offensively challenged as most believe. I can't find the clip but during FA frenzy when the signing was announced I believe it was Mike Johnson (TSN) who commented that Danault had the 16 most points 5on5 of all NHL centers over the last two seasons. If true, that's quite impressive for a player who is known for strictly his defensive play, IMO.

Danualt had 66 ES pts +27 Tied for 22 among guys listed as "C" on NHL.com with Bergeron +50

Lindholm 65 ES Pts -2
Backlund 56 -6
Coleman 54 +15
Monahan 51 -22
