The tournament organizers are probably cheering so hard for Rafa right now

Rafa takes it in the breaker but how can you not be impressed with Sock tonight. He literally left everything out there, I hope he can build on this. For Rafa was a great first hard court match back.

That's really Sock's fault for making that terrible drop shot, though. You've got control of the point, just hit a forehand.

I have just heard on "The Tennis Podcast" (which is actually a pretty good listen) that there is an incredibly damning follow up article coming out this month relating to Alex Zverev and his ongoing abuse allegations.
The only comments thus far were to the extent that the ATP is going to need a very robust player conduct and domestic abuse policy to be put in place asap as a direct result.
I do not like Zverev for so many reasons, but these allegations, if true, need to be brought to light and dealt with. Nobody should be able to skirt these deplorable acts in this day and age.

Felix just lost to wild card Jenson Brooksby in straight sets. Ugh.

Brooksby played a terrific match and Felix might still be recovering from Tokyo. Also, it was a hot and humid day in DC (just like it was in Tokyo when FAA lost to Max Purcell).

Rafa joins Felix on the sidelines as Lloyd Harris sends Nadal packing 6-4 1-6 6-4

With that loss by Rafa, Greek Yogurt will move to #3 in the world while Rafa drops to #4

I think I underestimated how bad his foot injury was. Hopefully he still plays Rogers Cup and the US Open.

Federer pulls out of Toronto and Cincinnati. I don't have high hopes he plays the US Open but you never know. Just once I'd like to see Federer vs Nadal at the US Open, how has that never happened?

the way things are going that could be a 2nd or 3rd round match next year, if Roger even shows up. I really need the Canadian kids to fully arrive now so that there's minimal gap in my tennis fandom. otherwise it'll just be like watching NHL playoffs from the 2nd round onwards - no Flames to cheer for, so only being really invested if there's people I hate.

Remember in 2016 when Roger visited Rafa at his academy and the two of them couldn't even play an exhibition because they were both injured? Then in 2017 they won all 4 Majors , let's hope 2022 is like that

He has been on a heater of late - Played well in Newport on the grass, the weakest part of this game is probably his serve, but the ground strokes have been on fire.
