O Captain My Captain

its a shame that Flames fans didn't have a chance to watch him play and give him an ovation in his last game, knowing that the expansion draft was coming up, most of us knew this was something that was possible, even likely...

Great Captain, better person.

Good Luck to him - hopefully he does well there.

Its just a shame. An inauspicious end to his Career as a Flame.

Plucked away against his will.

If nothing else, its a credit to him. Still valuable and desirable at his age.

I think Gio would make an incredible GM if he ever wanted to do that after his playing days are over.
Listening to him in interviews over the years he always seemed very smart. Analytical in his breakdown of games and players.
He is that incredibly rare blend of high end offensive player + heart and soul guy - so he kind knows both, what's needed for both. I read he thought he was going to be an accountant one day so he'd be good with the cap too!

Good interview with Gio on TSN. Seems super genuine in his love for the city and franchise. Wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him back in a years time after his contract runs out.
