They would've signed him before they went shopping if he was intending to come back. He was a priority for the team, as they stated it repeatedly in the weeks before today. Don't get it twisted, he left because he wanted to go home. Not because the team didn't want him back, or that they didn't have space. He alluded to his recently expired NHL deal as probably being his last before he headed back to Czech when he signed it, and has hinted at it more than a few times in the years since.
In terms of flexibility in the unlikely event he changes his mind, they could dump DeBrusk for picks, LTIR John Moore or simply have signed Krejci to a base+bonuses contract, which they currently actually still have the space to do. Not to mention that there was an offer on the table. He decided to go home. All the respect in the world for his decision. Was a real nutshot for me.
