Today I learned that there are two heat registers in my master bedroom. One of which has been covered by carpet for the 12 years I've lived in this house.

Getting Gorilla glue on your fingers is damned hard to get off!

I've been using various methods including acetone and it's slowly working.

That the numbers on a toaster are minutes, not levels.

This is not really accurate.

Old Toasters used to have a bimetallic strip that would bend as heated and the dial moved this distance the strip was from the contact. So the further the distance the higher the temp.

Modern toasters will measure the charge in a capacitor so this acts like a timer but isn’t directly correlated with minutes. As you increase the number it increases the voltage setting on the capacitor. This may or may not be linear.

Some more expensive toasters have a timing circuit.

My toaster has a dial with numbers, but it also has a digital countdown timer. The dial with numbers does not match up with the timer in any discernible way.

The dial with numbers affects the "doneness" of the toast?

Wait does the dial go to 11, I so want the dial to go to 11.

I just learned of the demise of the original Rafter Six Ranch. I feel the loss of our western heritage and I can’t imagine the loss for the Cowley family, building up that ranch, then losing it in a business deal. CBC has a production called “Back in the Saddle” touching on the loss of the ranch and the road to recovery. This story is also a cautionary tale of putting your land up as collateral.

"I am feeling very hurt, shocked, at a loss for words in some ways too. I am just so full of emotions.

"We built the lodge with our own hands, did the drawings and built it, and now we are watching it come apart — and for what purpose?" she asked.
Gloria and her husband Stan Cowley learned about the demolition last week when the Municipal District of Bighorn confirmed a permit had been issued to bring many of the buildings down, including the main lodge.

The Cowley's financial troubles began in 2008, when they partnered with a company they hoped could transform their ranch into a five-star resort.

"They said all we had to do was put up our land and our buildings, which we did," Stan Cowley said in 2013.

It does not. I think 4 gives you around 2 minutes.

Speaking of toasters. After decades of under toasting/burning bread on various name brand toasters I decided to spend a bit more for a Breville Smart Toaster and enjoy consistently perfect toast and bagels.

I got a Breville coffee maker off of Kijiji for $60. Retails for $400 and is the best $60 I ever spent.

That the song Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot is about recently deceased Cathy Smith, the lady who went to jail for injecting John Belushi with the drugs that ended up killing him.

yes, I had only known that due to a Lightfoot documentary I watched a while back though

However Cathy Smith, what a complex life, eh?

as a kid I just knew her as the Belushi lady, but the muse for Lightfoot, dalliances with rockstars from Levon Helm to Keith Richards, taught computer work to member of the Manson family while in person, worked for the real life lawyer played by Albert Finney in the Erin Brockovich movie etc! read her obit in the globe and mail and every paragraph was a completely different story (except for the sex and drugs that were recurring themes)
