So Swoop, Transat/Rouge, AC, WestJet, Sunwing, and now OWG all servicing the sun market.
400s are probably okay from central Canada but would they be range limited in places from western Canada? I seem to recall some fuel/tech stops in the past.

Yeah it would be a struggle. They'd maybe intend to pull the Transat card where you depart Cancun as "non-stop" to Calgary and immediately re-file to stop in Kansas City for fuel which somewhat allows you to still market it as non-stop.

Who is still flying the 747 for passengers? Gotta be a pretty small list of airlines now.

I walk my dogs early in the morning. Most days I see a 747 flying over Calgary.
Checked Fightradar and Atlas Air Caegao. Just wondering the Cargo.

Cargolux also flies their 747s into Calgary.

A 747 here is almost always only twice a week, not most days. The cargo on Atlas or Cargolux could be anything, from Lamborghinis to helicopters to oil equipment to medical supplies... I've seen it all. Korean Air is almost always horses.

What was the massive plane that flew over or landed at YYC on Saturday night? Got a text from the kid about 10 pm (we were out camping) telling me about how loud it was (lol) so we just assumed it was fairly massive. Found this yesterday, so clearly a few people noticed it.

A nice little thread bump, unfortunately due to the filing of bankruptcy by Virgin Atlantic.
Which got me wondering, is anyone else trying to keep up with aviation channels on YouTube? I use to just subscribe but since the pandemic I've been liking and commenting on tons of videos from my favorite subscriptions.
Am I the only avgeek that can sit down and watch flight review after flight review?

We got a Cargolux 747-400 freighter in from Los Angeles Friday night around 11pm.
But your tweet above was most likely the CF-18 that took off around 12:06 yesterday morning.

I assume they're big? I don't know squat about planes. The kid just said it was so loud. We're right in the flight path, which hasn't been as bad since the approach routes were switched or whatever it is they did, and then add the pandemic in & it got quite quiet. Used to be, it was like our street was used to line up with a runway at the airport. The loud ones like she heard, we call roof grazers because they seem so low and are so loud, that you figure there's probably rub marks from the landing gear on your roof.
Thanks, Bigtime!

Yeah the 747 is the biggest plane we get, they're really big. They look lower than others because they're so much bigger but they should all be at roughly the same height.

747-400 is not particularly loud even on takeoff. An F-18 on the other hand.....
Given the day (Saturday) it sounds like an F18 is the more likely sighting? Nothing big on Flightaware on Saturday night that would warrant much noise.

In the replies to that twitter post someone mentions a small plane with a canard wing. It flew right over Confederation Park, relatively low and was super loud. I'm used to the loud engine noises from STARS as it rips overhead and this was at about the same altitude (or more accurately, wasn't as high as the Q400s that typically fly the same westbound track) but even louder.
Edit: I neglected to mention the pusher props. Thanks to Bigtime below, what I saw was definitely a P.180

Reason: Weighing in on P.180 vs. Alpha Jet without derailing the thread

Hmm, it could have been a Piaggo 180. Pusher props with canard wings up front.

Edit: Yup a Canadian registered P.180 arrived on Saturday afternoon.
