Usually a kid playing a sport where they move to another city and live with a "billet family" who houses and takes care of them.

Just relaying information.

That does seem to be the market these days.

About $15,000 for the base model 4-door with an automatic, plus destination.

But as Nufy said, that's the market these days... Witness this ad for a 2012 Accent 4-door: https://www.autotrader.ca/a/hyundai/...203G4&sprx=100

Manual, 144,000 km. Two years older, double the mileage, manual instead of automatic, and they still want $11,888 for it.

A 10-year old Hyundai still goes for 11k? F### me, I sold a 6-year old VW passat with only 40k mileage for $8000 in 2020. I should have hold on to the car for a few more years and get an extra $5000 for it.

Yep, you should have in retrospect. Used car values skyrocketed since 2020 due to the supply of new cars being choked off, and they're still super-high. Witness e.g. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/...ort/1677189724

2014 Passat, 197,000 km, $12,875.

Didn't it take you a decade to sell your RV?

Not quite...

Took it off the market and used it for a few years. I let the CP ad fall off the page over time.

Resurrected it when it was time to finally get rid of it.

Took about two weeks to get very close to my asking price.

I sold a 2007 Camry for $6K last year. XLE, low ish KM (about 134-140K on the odometer?) no accidents, well maintained. The girl I sold it to last year was elated not to have to spend over $10K for a similar caliber car.

Similar spec to the one I sold last year are still going for over $10K right now. Some are $16K. Mine would have probably garnered a lot of interest in the $10-12K range. It's crazy.

Anything below $30K and especially below $20K is nucking futs right now.

It's crazy. I have a 2018 Altima that I got a great price on new. I'm pretty confident I could sell it for either what I paid or within maybe $1-2k after driving it for 5 years.

But then I'd need a new one, and the pretty regular full size cars (Camry/Accord/Altima etc) seem to be $40k now new

You can't make money by sell high buy high (on an equivalent)... same with everyone clapping over how much their home values have gone up.

Unless you own 15 of those Altimas and are happy to give up 14 of them with no replacement, you are net gaining nothing with inflation.
Similarly, selling your one piece of primary residence is only beneficial if you are for example downsizing to a condo.

Oh for sure - trust me, that wasn't a humble brag of "I own a 5 year old Altima". I'm not making money on it, and the only reason I bought it to begin with was a big discount compared to other vehicles in the same (exceedingly boring) class. But I need to drive around and it gets the job done.

It was more just a commentary on the ridiculousness of the inflation. I'm certainly not better off having it be worth more in dollars, because eventually I'm going to need a new vehicle and now it'll cost $40k instead of $25k.

Plus the most likely outcome is that I buy a new one for me and this ends up the kid's vehicle when they start driving. So I'm actually not likely to ever sell it for more than like $500 or whatever when it's 15 years old.
