He said an Oiler media guy told him Lucic pressed his thumb against Tkachuk's adam apple while on the ice.

I had to check, wasn't sure, found this (Boston's leading 2-0 after one, so looking like the flames could use the win):
Quote:
Home-ice advantage through the first two rounds goes to the team that placed higher in the regular-season standings. In the Conference Final and Stanley Cup Final, home-ice advantage goes to the team that had the better regular-season record, regardless of the teams' final standing in their respective divisions.

I'm all for leaving any player out that's not 100% or may be a target for the Oilers goons. This game isn't worth players getting injured for no reason as you just know Lucic, Kassain, etc are going to be taking liberties whenever possible as they have nothing to lose.

I disagree, the Flames are awful after breaks. For some reason they really seem to be affected by rust. Tampa clinched their conference forever ago, and guys like Kucherov, Stamkos, and McDonagh have still played in all 82 games...
Anyone who is not sick or injured should play tonight.

With Tkachuk out tonight, guessing Calgary goes 11 forwards and 7 d-men vs. Edmonton.
Dalton Prout likely coming in.

Glad that Prout is playing, just in case e=ng start running around try to hurt people. I know he has walked away from a few confrontations but why take the penalty when it is not needed.

I like it for multiple reasons.
A) More selective icetime for Johnny to try and get his 2 points.
B) Tkachuk is a lightning rod for extracurricular scrums.
C) Prout is worth playing, but not at the expense of the rest of the Playoff starting 6.

Prout instead of Quine makes sense, especially if there is to be some fisticuffs.
Gaudreau-Lindholm-Neal
Dubé-Backlund-Frolík
Mangiapane-Ryan-Hathaway
Prout-Jankowski-Czarnik
Giordano-Brodie
Hanifin-Hamonic

I don’t know. This is not really a traditional “break” of the sort that the Flames seem to have struggled with since they will be practicing every day and working to maintain a high level of intensity.

You tell Kassian and Lucic in the warm up that even if they look at any of our players funny that McDavid's contract will expire before he takes the ice again

Put Prout on the 4th forward line with Czar and Janko every so often.

If Boston loses I'm ok with sitting just about everyone. If they win we need to beat Edmonton to secure 2nd overall in the off chance we make it to the finals. Home ice is HUGE if we made it that far.
Looking at the way the east stacks up, I would say there is a real possibility Boston makes it out, and if we make it out of the west it's a big disadvantage being the lower seed.

I know what you're saying because I've been thinking the same thing, but that ship has sailed I think. By clinching early, resting players and not having another game until late next week the break has already happened.
This is a nothing game. Dont risk anything. I'd like to see Johnny hit 100 and I especially want to see the Flames grind the filthy Oil under our bootheels, but not at the risk of injuries.
Realistically the message from the referees to the Oilers early on should be:
"Hey, go polish your golf clubs, lets just do this and get through this and all move along."

^ the Flames are bad after breaks where they sit on a beach and drink for 7 days. They'll be practicing this whole time.

No point now to the Oil gooning it up...neither team has anything to play for except individual stats.

EDM have good players so it will be a good challenge tonight. CGY has to continue the rhythm they've found that has allowed them to play incredible hockey - win games different ways, win games when not at top form etc. - the mark of a great team.
I'm excited to see CGY reach any outstanding goals for the season but also to watch younger guys get more responsibility to show what they can do. Flames hockey has been amazing to watch - high scoring, fast paced, highly skilled and tactically precise (shut opponents down).
